With many blade steels it's also important who produced it and how it's been treated — Benchmade consistently excels there too. The CPM-20CV in this offers great edge retention and corrosion resistance for the money, while being a bit less tough and harder to sharpen than, e.g., S35VN. As for the handles/scales, I'm not 100% sure what exactly these are, but when you buy Benchmade you can trust it's going to be more than half decent. You can upgrade them later if you want anyway.

I'm fairly ambidextrous as I have to be, but most knives are specifically designed for right handed use, which makes sense since there are more right-haned people.
Due to the axis lock Benchmade uses there is no difference opening, closing, locking up the blade with the right or left hand. And it's super easy to switch the pocket clip to the other side, which is true for most pocket knives.
Just thought I'd say this because it was a cool surprise for me when I bought the griptillian about 10 years ago. 😉

Personally, I think the G10 grips are a more elegant design for premium steels versus the standard design …
As for knives, a $25 Kershaw does not have similar specs, and you will notice a difference with this, everyday. In my experience it is worth the premium to avoid things like struggling with a dull knife or having to sharpen it every 147 hours, having to polish out rust spots or wipe it down with a diaper and gun oil after ever use, worrying about a lock failure that could land me in the ER, or being ashamed every time I pull it because it was made by commies.
I spent $250 on a Microtech UTX85 in M390. I'm not flexing, I'm just highlighting a point. The edge retention is outstanding and the blade is essentially rust proof. I've had it 6 months, use it constantly, have never had a single blemish, and can still LITERALLY shave with it. The lock has never malfunctioned...you can beat it with a 2x4 and it won't fail, and if it did, an OTF wont cut my finger off, and Microtech would repair it and send it back no questions asked. I take pride when using it knowing it was built by and it's purchase supports, fellow Americans.
Is it 10 times as good as a $25 Kershaw? Well, value is context dependent. It is to me.
