Flashback to when HD had these at $115 and $90. Man that was a solid deal. Let me just jump in my time machine.

Same model, but 5.0 battery. That was a couple of months ago. Killer deal.

I'd jump on this to upgrade from my old brushed saw, but wood is so expensive I have nothing to cut.

which one is better the 7 1/4 or 6 1/2?

I am thinking the 6 1/2 is better for right handers, since you can see the blade as you cut. Am I wrong with this line of thinking?

Bought this at full price for a project and love it. Plenty of power, cuts smoothly, blade brakes quickly to a stop, fairly comfortable to use. It's a great tool even not on sale.

The 7-1/4 blades are more common for circular saws. This saw probably has more power, too.

Right or left handed, blade right or blade left, there are advantages and disadvantages either way depending on how you use your saw. Including:
  • Sight lines (though cut-outs in blade guards are getting much better)
  • Where the chips/sawdust fly (somewhat negated if the saw has dust collection)
  • How you set up and hold your cuts (which side is the cut-off on)
  • Where your hands and body are in relation to the blade
  • What you are accustomed to using
Some people have very strong feelings about which is best, but it is ultimately up to the individual user to choose which attributes are most important to them.

That was probably with the 'battery hack', no?

$200 for the 7 1/4 saw and a 6 AH HO battery is a pretty good deal. That battery retails for $180, and the cheapest it's ever been on here is like $90. So, assuming you want the pack, you're getting this deal for $5 less than the one you're mentioning, and no messing around with returning stuff to HD.

I did find the deal you are mentioning, and it did involve returning the battery. The battery in that deal was one of the crappy 5AH XC (non HO battery), and for a tool like this, you really want to use their new HO batteries. Without returning the pack, that deal was $210, so more than this, with a much crappier battery.

Oh yes wise wisdom. Let me pay the same price and get one less battery. WITHOUT the hack you got tool, 5.0 ah (shit battery according to you) AND 6.0 ah HO. Total was 221.54 after tax for me. Of course I returned the HO battery and did the hack for 120ish after tax for tool and 5.0 ah. You are out of your mind thinking this is a comparable deal.

Here are all the items that I picked up. Nothing has touched a similar price to these deals recently:

Holy moly, that's a good deal. I can finally chuck my 6.5" Bosch left blade in the trash. Man do I hate that saw. Time to make some new ripping jigs and ditch the corded saw while I'm at it. TU and repped.

There's no way I'd buy something like this if it was available for $115
