I'm in the market for a small inverter generator.

Multiple reviews from ebay say the refurbed firman generators do not come with the accessories. (Oil, oil funnel, spark plug wrench, parallel cables)

This generator has the air intake on the bottom of the unit. Other reviews say because of this, the air intake for the engine sucks up sand and debris from the ground.

Some reviews say it can't handle over 1000w without shutting down. Others say it can handle the rated 1600w.

Reviews range from getting a unit that is almost new, to units that are heavily used and partially broken.

Looks like a gamble. I'm passing on this.

yeah too marginal watt wise unless you just want a tailgate gen.2300 gives you bit more headroom for 1 larger device + 1 small or 2 medium peak loads, etc. 100 bucks more , pulsar wen, ai power etc you can get 2200 ish, auto fuel shutoff or some combination thereof.

I have this one. Got it at Costco. If this refurb performs like it it's great. Using a jumper on my transfer switch I can power all 120v devices in my 2700sqft home but have to choose one high draw device at a time. So either fridge OR gas heater upstairs. Not ideal but very manageable for how great this is on gas compared to the big 7-8k ones.

Took your advice and did the same. Got it for my RV. You saved me from making a bad purchase buying two of the 2000's and running parallel. Plus Dual fuel!!! Thanks bud! πŸ‘ŒπŸΌπŸ‘ŒπŸΌπŸ‘ŒπŸΌ

Can you elaborate a bit (or maybe share a link) about this kind of setup? what do you mean exactly when you say you're using a jumper on the transfer switch? I just moved to FL and thinking of getting one of these to power a few essentials in the house during a inevitable hurricane power loss in the future.. thanks!

Just a heads up, I believe the dual fuel 3200w model requires the special Firman regulator/hose assembly to use propane AND the battery needs to be operational in the generator. No battery and no special regulator means not able to use propane.

A lot of other dual fuel generators don't require a battery to use propane.

Editing to say: I have been thinking a lot about both of these generators for 2 days. The price is right and the features are there. Which has almost pushed me to buying either of them. I just can't do it. Too many negative signs.

If you get functioning generators - Awesome! If not, it looks like a potentially huge headache might be in your future.

It has been my experience that good companies refurbish products to almost new condition and usually include original new accessories with the refurbished product. If accessories are not included, good companies explicitly state the missing items when buying the refurbished product. These listings state what is included, but not the missing items that would have come if bought new.

Multiple people report getting generators that are filthy and don't work. Multiple people report issues with lack of service centers for Firman generators if warranty work needs to be completed. Multiple people report poor customer service. Multiple people in reviews point out the design flaws of these generators compared to similar models from other manufacturers.

Good companies usually don't have a 93% ebay rating. (which is pretty bad)

Good companies don't usually have an "F" BBB rating

Because of all this, I personally can't pull the trigger on buying these generators even when the price is very attractive. If you are buying a generator, you need it to work and work well.

Seems like a risky product from a risky company. I wish good luck to those that get them.

So you have two sides of your breaker box. Each side is 1 of 2 legs of the power coming from the utility pole. It's all sync'd up so that when a 240v device get the correct power. When the power is out I flip my transfer to my generator circuit. I have a wire that jumps across each leg so both sides share the same 120v coming off the generator. None of the 240v stuff will work because they are not receiving the correct power but it allows ALL of my non 240v circuits to work as expected. Time to time when I borrow a big generator I remove the jumper and everything works as expected. Last winter we were without power for almost two weeks. My little generator was cutting it for awhile but only being able to run heat upstairs wasn't able to warm up downstairs. I borrowed my neighbors 7.5k generator that does 240v and ran off that for a few hours to run the downstairs forced air heat where the blower motor is 240v. That few hours used more fuel than this little thing does over 24 hrs.

I understand the skepticism, however this comes with a 2 year allstate warranty. so if it breaks you can get your money back. Allstate warranties have been great, i had a TCL TV and it broke after a year and they refunded my entire money and i just donated the TV to a repair shop

There are
Plugs that bridge the two hot legs on a 30amp 240V twist lock. You have to have an interlock and shut off most of your 240V breakers.

I ran my 13 year old Yamaha 2800 inverter 18-20 hours on a propane tank during and After Ian. I have a tankless gas heater and stove so we had lights and everything else but AC
