no, these are super mega mass produced... there are just SO many of these cards made that they aren't worth much

No, but if he's looking to learn the game, the experience this gives him will be plenty valuable. A few of the cards (Switch, Boss' Orders, Great Ball, Piers...) could be re-used in very competitive decks. Or he could gift it to a younger kid.
