Setup the RasPi with PiHole:
sudo apt install git
git clone --depth 1 https://github.com/pi-hole/pi-hole.git Pi-hole
cd "Pi-hole/automated install/"
sudo basic-install.sh

Once it's installed, most of the time the defaults are fine for most. It will block ads, and it will block the "sponsored" (ahem) Google results, and it will block some Slickdeals links (alas) but there are workarounds to all of that. After all, you ARE getting this to block ads!

On the UDM SE: Set your DNS for your home network to (the RasPi's IP address).

Wait a little while, while your clients adjust to using the new DNS server (the Pi) rather than the UDM and whatever your ISP uses.

Extra bonus points: Setup PiHole's uplink as OpenDNS, setup an account on OpenDNS, and use their enhanced blocking to block more junk / adult trash /etc.

More bonus points: Use the UDM SE console, turn on full packet inspection and network defense / blocks. The wording escapes me at the moment, but on a UDM SE it shouldn't slow down even the fastest networks doing that step.

Even MORE bonus points: On the UDM SE, kill all connections to 12 (or is it 15?) suspect countries. You don't need anything from them, so block all traffic in and out. You'll be stunned at how much cleaner everything runs, and you'll get far less attacks too.

And no, the PiHole won't slow down your network. But again, it will block ads, and that sometimes means it blocks ads you might not mind.

But browsing webpages becomes fast and wonderful again, without millions of annoying ads....

It has unique features not found in other TVs. It definitely doesn't have the performance of OLEDs (though it's not a poor performer), but people don't buy it because they think it does. My wife decreed this was the only tv she would allow in our family room due to it's bezels and art mode capabilities. I find the UI and menu to be a complete mess compared to my Sony. The menu is covered in advertisements and promotion of certain apps and channels. I wish I could pay a fee to debloat the Samsung menus. Samsung has locked things down and old tricks to debloat it no longer work.

Cool design, but this seems like really dang expensive for a 55" non OLED in 2022, no? I feel like in a year, this will be half this price, but I guess that's for most TVs…

The UI is a complete mess. But I do love the physical design of this TV. I got an Apple TV to connect to it. Better apps, more responsive UI, and no ads.

I'd love if every TV had some option to just turn off all the useless smart TV stuff for those of us with dedicated streaming devices.

… isn't that just "don't put it on a network"?

With this particular TV, you have to add it to your network to use the included Art Mode that is a big selling point. Even if you don't get the paid art subscription, you have to connect it to your network to manually upload art images. I guess you could just upload a bunch and then turn it off though. But then you can't control it with the phone app either.

So the phone app has a direct connection to the TV, or do both require access to a server on the public internet? Because, if the former, just using a pihole or network block to kill internet access would resolve the issue…

I'd think it was high time for Apple to release an app (or someone to make an app) to endlessly show wall art, like these TVs do. But then I suspect the issue would be always on vs. this TV's presence sensor feature…

The ads are less of an issue to me than the redundant (to me), built-in streaming apps that they show every time you try to switch inputs or change any settings.

I'd like a mode where a TV just behaves like a monitor with basic picture/sound/input settings and nothing else.

LG has art without paying more. I have the 65 inch and I've had it for about 6 months. It's stunning and has what this TV has but it was about 800 more at the time. It has everything the old has.. I haven't checked these side by side. I didn't sleep well so check both. I like that the LG can turn and swivel and you can change the direction to keep
sun away from it if you happen to have a window nearby
Are you saying that there's an LG TV that can do the art mode but also costs less? Because I'm not dedicated to Samsung (I actually tend to avoid them), but I have a tiny place and having something other than a big black box take up the focal point of the room would be nice. I wish there was a cheap lookalike or substitute for the frame TV; I have bad eyes so all the fancy sharp picture stuff is wasted on me.

Was able to get one in excellent open box condition at Best buy for $777....Maybe a lucky number LoL 😂 wife has been asking for one a for a few years already. Since I'll be getting a Tesla in a few weeks...why can the wife get a her frame TV.... today I'm sleeping good.

My wife hates the visual of a black screen on TVs. I got a 85" Samsung QN90A and she hates it. I think she would have accepted it if it was the frame so at least art work is being displayed but I can't justify the degradation of image quality. For movies and a lot of TV application, a high end tv like OLED is better but for those who don't like seeing a black void in their space, these Samsung Frame are awesome.

Just got out of Best buy.... defeated. According to the site it was in open box - excellent. I got there... associate is like, we are getting the tv ready in the warehouse. I'm like, oh ok cool. I go to the back to check the other tvs. While I'm checking the tv, I see in that of the doors that they are getting a tv ready...I see it is my tv... without a box on the bare floor being wrap in bubble wrap. I was like...bro that floor better be clean cause I can feel that frame getting scratches...once they took it to the front, the associate was like "the tv is ready"... I'm like... that's it?...Yes. long story short...the tv was missing everything including the one all box. Was only the screen. I told them... is like buying and computer without a motherboard...or a car without an engine. Had to return it right there in there. Frown LoL.... keeping my gt30 Plasma.

I got one open box with two year warranty from BUYDIG a few months ago and love it. I got the "modern brown" Samsung Bezel off eBay for $80 and my god it does look like a painting. Signed up for free four month trial of their Art service and gotta say it's worth it. Have a rotating assortment of awesome art instead of a huge black monolith. The frame makes ALL the difference, cannot recommend enough you get one of your choice if you buy this.

TV performance is very good, better than the Sony X900E it replaced, but certainly not great for the price. This is furniture as much as a TV.

What is the Costco Black Friday ad scan?

Considering buying this directly off the Samsung website (same price) as you get a free customizable frame with it from their website which is normally $100-$150.

The QN90A has an Ambient Mode that allows you to show artwork, fireplace and other type of Screensavers. Not up to The Frame art quality but it's better than nothing. I have the 85" QN800A and my wife likes when I put it on Ambient mode when we're not watching. Some of the options are a little gimmicky but try it and see if she will like it.

We bought a 2021 55" The Frame from Costco - same price & deal - last March for our newly remodeled bedroom. I love it! I won't bore you with all the reasons why - go to Samsung.com and read the description of what it does. I knew from the beginning I wanted one for our Living Room, too, and have just been waiting for this deal. I am ordering one tomorrow. Thanks so much for calling my attention to this!

I first considered The Frame TV because I didn't want to hang a big, black rectangle on my wall – I wanted a picture. With this TV, when you are in the room but not watching TV, the picture of your choosing is displayed. When it detects no motion for whatever period you set it, it turns off. Come back in, picture. Love it.

I love the One Connect Box, too. You only have one thin, translucent cable running from the TV and everything else - power, cable, audio, other components - connect to the box which can be located anywhere. The remote is Bluetooth so the box doesn't even have to be in the same room. We have the One Connect Box and a wireless Xfinity cable box in a hidden compartment in the dresser beneath the TV.

It comes with a wall mount designed to hang it flush against the wall like a picture but since we couldn't hang it directly across from the bed, we bought an extremely thin Vogel's THIN 445 full motion wall mount from Amazon that allows us to rotate and tilt the TV easily.

If you are considering buying this, or any TV, at other stores, consider the following:
- Samsung provides a longer warranty at Costco than other places including Samsung.com (2 years instead of 1) and Costco is throwing in an additional 3 years of Allstate extended warranty for free which you will have to pay extra for at other stores.
- Costco provides 2 years of their Concierge Service which I can attest to is great. When I was setting up our new TV on a Sunday night at 8:30pm, I couldn't get the remote to work so I called them. To my amazement, a person answered the phone without the automated run-around! He was friendly and helpful, and we figured out that I needed to re-pair the Bluetooth remote with the TV which he walked me through. Presto, it worked. Happy customer.
- Costco includes a 2-year subscription to the Samsung Art Store which normally costs $50/year. Don't worry that you will have to pay this after 2 years if you don't want to, though, as there is free art, or you can upload your own photos or art.
- Costco has a 90-day return policy for TVs. Everyone else's is 30 days. They make price adjustments for 90 days, too, if they offer a better deal during that time. (Verify when you buy.)
- Costco is famous for striving to ensure their members are 100% satisfied and go to great lengths to do so. I have not experienced this elsewhere.

The Frame was our first TV purchase from Costco, and I don't plan to buy TVs from anyone else in the future. Their prices are competitive and the customer experience and perks they provide are the best.

When my son wanted to buy a 75" TV last month, we did due diligence and shopped around but Costco provided the best TV/warranty/support for the money, and it wasn't even on sale. The salesperson told him it may go on sale soon, and he could ask for a price adjustment for 90 days. I just saw in the new Holiday Savings brochure that it will be going on sale 11/14 for $170 off. We plan to be there asking for a refund of the difference.

You get 4 years more warranty, 2 years of Costco Concierge Service, and 2 years of Samsung Art Store Subscription ($100 value) from Costco for free.
For some reason Samsung offers 2-year warranties on their TVs at Costco and only 1 year everywhere else, including their own website. Costco is then offering an additional 3 years of Allstate Extended Warranty for free while Samsung will offer to sell you their Samsung Care+ for a ridiculous amount of money.
Samsung will not be giving away the Art Store Subscription, either, which you will want to try. They will charge you $50/year.
Finally, I have found Costco's Concierge technical support service very easy to access and helpful.
Costco also offers 90-day returns and price adjustments. If you order at Costco.com and need to return it, you can take it to a warehouse instead of trying to ship a *huge* box.
Conclusion: When you add it all up, it's much cheaper to buy the TV from Costco and buy the extra frame from Samsung or eBay.
