When using Chase points on amazon, you are not getting a 1 to 1 point value on your amazon purchase, you are getting less.
If you make your amazon purchase via your credit card, you EARN points, and then you can cash in your points for $10 per 1000 points
But, if you use your points on amazon, you do not earn points (obviously) but you also do not get $10 worth of value for 1000 points, you get more like $8.50 (or similar)
So it is a better deal to make your purchase with your credit card, earn points that way, and then cash in your points for cash directly from Chase
