after finally deciding which one to get I also noticed the code expired when trying to purchase but I reached out to the customer chat and they gave me a coupon that worked (35% off). not sure if you can reuse this but give it a go: 8D21876M21XC

If not try and giving the chat a try.. had to wait about 20 min but they were helpful!

I guess if you want to carry a few things (to stay within carry on limits) that are fragile and so need the hard shell or flying some of the commuter flights that don't allow anything bigger than a handbag. Being expandable, this will work for the latter and may be enough for short trips.

Not a fan of hard shells for carry on luggage.

Is it worth going with the regular Carry-On (23" x 14.5" x 9.5") or the Compact Carry-On (22" x 14" x 9") for the same price? I'm wondering what airlines where the slightly larger one would cause issues.

Unbelievable deals - They currently have a 15% off sale. Then when you apply the 35% off coupon, it takes 35% off the reduced price, for a total of 45% off the original price! Works for many items, if not all. I picked up a 25" platinum spinner. They were sold out pretty much everywhere earlier this year and were going for higher than retail! Got one for nearly half off! They are going for more than this on eby.

Most airlines have a limit of 22 inches for their carry-on limit. I'm not sure where they're getting 23 inches from.

Good point. The regular carryon linked in OP is the 23". I'll snag the compact carry on then

Do you think the elite is worth 2x the money of the maxlite air?

I travel a lot for work, so I think the platinum elite is worth for me. For casual travel, the maxlite should be more than sufficient haha

This is my first travelpro purchase though, replacing a beat up IT carry on from ross

haha ok.

I looked at the 23 inch again and the wording says "Sizer bin tested to fit perfectly in overhead bins of most major domestic airlines while allowing for more packing capacity"

So I guess they somehow must have fit a 23 inch in the overhead/testing bins despite the larger size?

I love my old TravelPro Crew3 bags, but I'm having trouble justifying premium luggage prices on a carry-on bag. I've got a hardshell Speck 22" ($35 in the middle of the pandemic, lifetime warranty) and an Amazon Basics 22" ($25). If you're not checking them, it's pretty hard to do much damage to them. That said I've checked them a few times and had them gate checked without issue.
