Agreed. The 5600G is a MUCH better CPU.

The 4600G went to OEMs in July 2020, and was released as DIY on April 4, 2022 as part of the response to Alder Lake taking the low-end.

If the 5600G is only $15 more, then it has better price/performance than the 4600G.

What's the cheapest AM4 APU? I have a spare b450 motherboard and I want to build a PC for my in-law. He's going to use it mainly for 1080p youtube and light browsing. Is 2200G good enough?

Yes definitely. I use 2200G for my 4K TV and it runs smoothly.

How did this garbage hit front page? Either you go to the 5600, 5600G, or 5600X for objectively better performance, or you go down to an i3 Alder Lake, also for better performance. In no way is this slick.

Hot take: if all you need is an iGPU for light gaming and on a tight budget, you are better of with this CPU and spending money on faster DDR4 rather than a 5600G.

Hotter take: You can pick up a used RX 2600/1600AF or i7-6700 and RX 460 4GB for about the same price and have a much more capable system.

Does this need a bios update to work?

How does one spend more money on faster memory when ddr4 3200 is the same price as ddr4 2600 and often times cheaper. And ddr4 3600 or faster isn't gonna benefit noticeably in any benchmark metric?

In what universe does spending 15$ more on a cpu that's 20-25% faster a bad deal? The memory upgrade will only improve 2-3% max

Also what if someone already has a GPU? Or maybe they have a spare b450 board laying around and need a cpu to pop into it. The 4600G as it right now sits doesn't make any sense. It needs to be less than 90$ to even be something to think about.

Also keep this in mind.
5600G Passmark score is 19,000
4600G Passmark 15,000
6700k Passmark score is 9000

6700k is already 7 generations old. You don't get nvme support with it. The motherboards are getting pretty old and long in the tooth. True. Your argument is saying. Why spend 130 on a cpu when you can go on the used market and put together a decent gaming pc for a similar price but that's not the point of this thread here.
