I wish it were a better discount, but its the only discount ($100 off) I have seen so far on it that didnt involve shenanigans.

Dell appears to also have the 38" AW3821DW [dell.com] (non oled) on sale for 250 off

It will have no fan noise because the gsync module is what makes this monitor require a fan. That said, gsync is still better than free sync so I'll wait for this one to reach 1000. The only concern I have is if they are still shipping it without panel protection which makes it come to buyers scratched.
?

G-Sync and FreeSync accomplish the same thing, and FreeSync does it without adding a fan to a monitor or a $100 module that increase the price.

Yeah my understanding is that G-sync ultimate (which this monitor has) has the benefit of something called variable overdrive that the QD-OLED monitors do not really benefit from... so for this particularly model g-sync compatible vs g-sync ultimate vs freesync shouldn't make a huge difference.

I have this monitor and can't hear shit so I don't know what anyone is on about, maybe their shit is defective...shit maybe my shit is defective and the fan isn't even on!? Oh shit!

Thanks for this I had no idea samsung was coming out with one.

For those who are curious it looks like the same panel but with hdmi 2.1 support for consoles. I'd still opt for the alienware for lowering latency with gsync, but competition should help lower prices maybe.
Competition always good! Samsung been in gaming monitors for a while so trust they'll make it decent at worst. Plus their pricing will put everyone on notice, and for that reason alone, I always root for Sammy.

Yes, they do the same thing which is attempt to sync monitor with video card FPS but they do it in a different matter. Gsync is still a good bit better though I wish it wasn't as a monitor without gsync module would not only be more quiet but also thinner.

You can search comparisons between all free sync vs all g sync versions you'll see everyone say g sync is still better.

It's clear these prices are coming down fast. OLED across the board in fact. Samsung introducing their OLED monitors soon. Don't think there is any rush buying out of fear of stock or prices.
Yeah I'm waiting for a non-curved Samsung 16:9 monitor, hopefully 4K 120hz+ at 24"-27".

FYI - this is the g-synch model.

They will have a updated none g-synch model (next month?) That will be the AW3423DWF model. That MAY have less fan noise then their g-synch model https://pcmonitors.info/dell/dell...ultrawide/ [pcmonitors.info]
I've been using this monitor for about two months now. The fan noise is negligible to me and can't hear anything over ambient room noise (which is low). I wouldn't be overly concerned about the fan noise

Do you remember if yours came with a protective sheet on top of the screen? Many people report that Alienware cheaped out and the screen rubs against the styrofoam making all screens have scratches of different magnitude. I need to ship my monitor overseas and if it doesn't come with that film, I can't buy it.

I got mine last week but just took it out of the box today and set it up, and yup I can confirm mine had the foam on the screen, and yes there are scratches, I'm pissed. Initially I just thought the foam left smudges and I didn't think much of it, until I cleaned it off. I can't see them during normal use, but when I shine a flashlight on it I can see them.

Looks like it's back in stock. I placed an order about a hour ago.
