Great! repped! Do you know by any chance if the Wells Fargo Autograph card can be used internationally without a foreign transaction fee?

According to this, no foreign transaction fee on that card

Do you just not travel at all? Because you can do a lot better than cash with these points for that was the point. I just used that as an example. But I've gotten a bunch of 4-5 cent a point airline redemptions to Europe too....and you can routinely get 2-2.5 cents a point for Hyatt hotels all over the world, as well as often getting 1.5-2 cents or better on domestic coach airfares.

How do you do your Europe travel? Planning to go there soon and wanting to maximize my 145k Chase Sapphire points for flights and maybe hotels.

ANA can get you there for 88k roundtrip via various star alliance partners (TAP portugal is a good one with really low fuel fees for example)

Avios is another likely candidate as long as you use it for say Aer Lingus from Boston to Dublin... or Iberia to Madrid....should run you like 100k roundtrip in biz off peak.. or as cheap as 26k roundtrip off peak in coach.... you typically do NOT wanna use it on BA because their fuel charges and taxes, especially into london, are insane.

Interesting. Looking to go to Faro, Portugal from ORD end of April. United can get me there for roughly 70k miles plus some like $120 round trip. Where do you find the fuel surcharge.

You can do a dummy booking and see the fees...or you can use googles ITA matrix

Another wrinkle is some airlines pass along fuel surcharges from partner bookings, and others don't.

For example if you booked Lufthansa first class with points, you'd get hit with an insane fuel charge from the airline (like north of $1500)... but if you book the same flight on the same airline- but through united as a partner award, you pay $0 fuel charge... (but the point cost might be higher)

Other airlines are even weirder- for example Air Canada has fuel surcharges on their own flights, but not SOME (but not all) partner airlines... likewise American only passes on surcharges from BA and Iberia but not anyone else- and they pass the full BA one along, but only part of the Iberia one.

This is part of why it's sometimes tricky to find which airline to book a flight with via points-- both the $ of points and the fees, can be quite different-- even for booking the same flight-- depending on which airline you book it though (and if it's a direct or partner booking).

yes. You can do it online after setting up the business acc. And from there you'll be able to transfer points directly to the Sapphire.

Do I sign into my business account or to my personal account to merge the accounts?

All Nippon Airways, one of the two major airlines based in Japan (JAL being the other).... they are in the star alliance and have the best partner award chart among such airlines... but they're not a chase transfer partner, they're an amex one (I do have a bad habit of not checking this when tossing out good airlines for bookings as I have a bunch of points in both systems- so apologies to anyone who is chase only and was distracted into going down that rabbit hole)

You CAN still potentially book on their flights via chase points via the SA partners who are chase partners (Singapore, United, and Air Canada) but you'd be using the partner award charts of those airlines at that point.... (using United for example would likely cost you more miles, but avoid fuel surcharges- YMMV on if that's worthwhile for a given flight)
