Best buy E-Gift Card or Apple Gift Card worked for me. Does not need to be default payment, however you must select the card when checking out before entering the promo code.

Both codes worked on my Citi Preferred card (which has been otherwise worthless since they killed my old Forward card). Bought a couple of $25 Google Play gc's.

What's a sample item to test this on? I tried an item shipped and sold by amazon and it still said this promotion can't apply to your item.

That verbiage seems to imply that I am eligible, but the item is not.
