I bought a similar model (without the screen) in 2017 and it completely died on me a few months back. Even though the compressor has a 10-year warranty, its only warranted for parts, not labor. (the coils only have a 5 year warranty so I barely made the cutoff there). There weren't any good sales at the time so we chose to have it repaired. All in all the repair cost about $900, took about 6 weeks and required 4 service calls. The technician told me this is a common issue on the LG refrigerator. Also told me Samsung has its own set of problems, particularly with in-door ice-makers. I will never ever buy an LG refrigerator again.

The power usage on this fridge seems high... I have a larger LG from 2016-2017, and its estimated power usage is only 563kWh:

This one is estimated at 708kWh and is 2 cubic feet smaller.

Man, I wish Samsung and LG didn't have terrible appliance reputations... These deals are so tasty
Check out consumer reports. LG actually has some of the highest ratings all around. I believe their compressor issues with refrigerators were about 10 years ago and have gotten better since then.

Which brand is better? Whirlpool, kenmore?
Whirlpool is usually very good. Kenmore isn't a manufacturer, they are just a rebadged brand made by multiple manufacturers. [wikipedia.org] Whirlpool is one of them.

just to give people a relative cost to this difference. it is about 140kwh. i pay 11c per kwh so this means i would pay $15.40 more per year to own this
Electricity prices vary so much by region though. Plus, if you live in the South where its warm year-round, then you have to pay again to cool the house from all of the fridge's waste heat. Whereas if you live somewhere cold year-round and use resistive electric heating, then this fridge would be free to run because the waste heat goes toward heating the house. Not many people live in Alaska though.

It's pretty much my only interest in an LG appliance

I second this. My LG was horrible and it was a top of the line stainless steel model. I got a Samsung last year and it's already having problems.
My LG just capped out yesterday! Bought it new at Costco on Nov.2017, luckily I bought the addt'l AllState/SquareTrade warranty which was set to expire at the end of this month (barely made the cut). We'll see if SquareTrade keeps their end of the bargain.
I loved my LG fridge. The dark stainless steel finish and Instaview door-to-door were great but crapping out after 4 yrs is very disappointing, specially when the previous fridge it replaced was much cheaper, was 10 yrs old and still going strong.

My LG crapped out over the weekend also. I purchased it December 2018. The compressor failed on it. Currently working to have it repaired. I feel the wait is going to be a bit.

LG too? I knew about Samsung and thought LG would be better, considering how popular they are.

I had a GE for 11 years without any problems, sold with the house as the buyers asked for it.

It's worth it we love it... Even save the excess in the deep freeze it's awesome for parties etc.
I bought the home Depot one awhile back no doorindoor but a lot cheaper and we didn't care for that feature that much.

My 2018 LG compressor failed in August 2022 and after 4 weeks and a botched repair attempt I purchased a whirlpool. It took me hours and hours of wasting my time on the phone to get a $1300 refund. Never ever again.

Using a crappy Magic Chef since 2006. Runs well enough but loud. Keep on compressing little buddy...
