I'd wait until the 5600 is back to $120-130. It's a much more future proof CPU.

Omg 😂 like night and day difference. Like you won't believe how bad your current system is until you go with this for the cheap upgrade it provides.

A 10 year old cpu on a dead socket that uses ddr3? I don't understand why you're even asking. It's an improvement for sure, supports ddr4 m.2 nvme drives, cores are much better architecture and with overclock 35-40% faster overall performance. 2 less cores but 4 more threads. Your upgrading from an old top of the line to a new middle/lower tier cpu.

It's gonna be more than 35-40% faster. The FX Passmark score is 6000 and the ryzen is well above 17-18,000

There were a bunch of cheap a520 boards, but it looks like they've dried up. You might be able to get an okay b450 for about 60, but then it's not certain if they'll work out of the box if at all as some boards haven't gotten Cezzane support.

Seconded. Not only does the 5600 have twice the cache, which has a tangible impact on games and content creation workflows, but it also supports PCIe 4.0, which means faster GPUs and faster m.2 storage options.

The cache is the main thing that's important, as it seems to significantly affect gaming performance.

For PCIe 4.0, the motherboard has to support too, so need a B550 or X570 motherboard, but it may not be worth the cost. It hardly makes a difference in gaming benchmarks, unless you're using a garbage rx 6400 or rx 6500 xt since they only can use four PCIe lanes.

I'm so tempted by this, but am still hoping for a Ryzen 5600 for under $120 for Black Friday or the Christmas season.....

AMD FX lol, now that's a name I've not heard in a long time. A long time.

Wasn't this one of the last processors AMD put out before they disappeared for a decade?

Some of us use our gaming PC for productivity/creative work, too. Loading massive files, even occasionally, is much nicer on a Gen 4 NVMe drive than Gen 3. For gaming? It won't matter really at all until direct storage is widely supported. Most of my games are stored on a large capacity SATA 3 SSD anyway, as load times don't make much difference to me personally.

Not a deal. The 5600 went on sale for $99 dollars at Microcenter. Stop peddling these prices as deals.
