A quick check at "Consumer Reports" indicates that the Lift-aways are better on carpets and the Vertex has better hose suction.

This AZ1810 is in Shark's Vertex line and is somewhat comparable to the AZ2002 Vertex vacuum, which is on sale at Best Buy for $250 -

Shark AZ2002 at Best Buy [bestbuy.com]

I think the difference between the AZ1810 and AZ2002 are the colors and a powered attachment that is included with the AZ2002. As noted in a post below, the AZ2002 may have a more powerful motor.

I'm not sure exactly where the UV850 falls in the Shark lineup (I don't see it on the Shark website aside from the owner's manual), but the Stratos and Vertex vacuums are generally the most expensive in the Shark lineup. The UV850 is similar to this vacuum in several ways (head width, liftaway feature, roller design), but it is a notch below it.

Edit: I've purchased and tested both the AZ1810 and the AZ2002. They are similar vacuums, but the AZ2002 is clearly the better vacuum. It has a larger motor, the dust container is larger, the attachments are better (the AZ2002 has an extra vacuum powered attachment) and the over feel of the AZ2002 is better. If you can get past the color scheme on the AZ2002, you can buy it at Bed Bath & Beyond for $200 after a 20% off coupon.

$100 is exactly how much I paid for my shark professional. beat the crap out of it, wire was all torn up. still works, but the biggest issue for me was that it would catch hair and it would be a waste of time cleaning it up. at least the az2002 is self cleaning, at least. well the main roller anyway. you still need to clean the front one though!

it's like they solved one problem and just moved it over to the other roller! GENIUS!
I have a Dyson Ultimate. I'll be damned if I know why they charge so much for it. Despite what they might have you believe, creating suction with a fan is not rocket science. If you make your appliance out of plastic and have a Li-Ion power source then woop-de-doo, you have a lightweight cordlass vacuum cleaner that can run 10-15 minutes. Let's give the British twat GENIUS five hundred bucks for that!

And $400 for a silly hair dryer.

And $300 for a fan with no blades... but it has blades... he's just hidden them in the base.

I weep for for mankind. Especially the gullible ones. And the rest of us who have to sit and watch it all go to sh!t.

Dyson's do have an advantage though... You can tell a whole lot about a person that owns one LMAO

I actually bought this one particular model a week ago from Walmart because of the price, but may end up returning it. Upon doing a quick research, this particular model has different specs than the other Vertex model. It's not just the color differences. It is less powerful and just two accessories.
I ordered the Shark Vertex at Best Buy model number 2002 and it's on sale right now for $250.

Shark doesn't make this super obvious, but this a "Speed" variant of the Shark Vertex (Shark Vertex Speed Upright DuoClean Vacuum w/ PowerFins/Self Cleaning Brushroll). In the past this usually meant a slightly lower wattage motor, in addition to having a slightly narrower brush head that's a few inches narrower. I bought a Shark DuoClean Speed variant (AX912) years ago because I needed something that was more maneuverable for my apartment that didn't have a lot of carpet. If you have a larger living space or lots of carpet consider not getting the "Speed" model.

My dyson canister is 14 years old and works great. However, it is heavier, and I was looking at a Shark as they are suppose to be lighter in weight. Also, I like the lift away feature. I appreciate all the comments this site.

The $99 vacuum does a great job. What makes this one twice as much??

Performance on carpet is my top priority. The reviews for the Vertex's carpet cleaning are so-so. I bought Shark's new top of the line model, the Stratos, from Shark for $299 and it included extended warranty. The fin design is different than the Vertex and I'm very happy with the performance.

I have the regular red and white Shark which is pretty awesome but then I tried out my neighbor's DuoClean and man it's so much better. If my Shark ever dies I am getting a DuoClean one next.

I bought the 2002 version last year on a BF sale, and I got to say, it's a great vacuum. The amount of dirt it picks up is amazing, and my carpet is left feeling really soft. 70% of our floor is carpet, and it does a really good job both on carpet and hard floors.

I love the lift away thing - makes it really easy to vacuum our stairs. I have only really has the $150 Bissell vacuums, so can't compare with the Dyson, but it feels like a solid product. Doesn't look beat up and it's been kept pretty clean through normal wear. I have a dog that sheds somewhat.

Only thing is that it doesn't have a retractable cord, but otherwise, I'd buy this thing again. Just not sure of the speed version

Where did you find these specs? How much less powerful?

Comparing the manuals, the 'speed' version has a 940w motor, and the '2000/2002' model has a 1400w motor.

I suspect that the 'speed' version is using the same 940w motor as the shark rotator. And if that's true, independent tests (vacuumwars) claim the actual performance difference between the two is quite minimal.
