This is not a good approach to figuring out the break point. It assumes that the alternative is to spend on groceries with NO rewards, which is not the case. There exists a free AMEX card that gives you 3%. There exist other rewards ecosystems where the points are worth more than straight cash back.

I'm not saying this card doesn't have value, but that is NOT the break point. If you ONLY spend $2000 on groceries, you'd be better off with the regular blue cash everyday giving you 3% back (e.g., $60 back). The preferred will get you an ADDITIONAL $60 back but it will cost you $95, that's not efficient.

I used a 15% off trade-in coupon too so it might be complicated to return and rebuy. Not worth the hassle, but I wish I had waited two days.

Yep from my prior experience with a return on a router at BestBuy that I used a 15% off trade-in coupon on and then a repurchase, It's definitely not something I'd ever want to do again. Lesson learned.
