Once you get shop card, immediately log back in and turn OFF auto renew. That flags system to send you out marketing communication (normally on monthly flyer) to renew with $20 off for 2024 via in store.

The membership lasts 13 months if you do it right. I usually skip 1 month between memberships - I stock up on everything on last day.
18 month was absolutely was enforced when I tried to sign up in the past. Couple years ago, I had signed up within the 18 months and when I got to the counter with my ID they refused to send me the coupons for all the freebies I was supposed to get on sign up and made me pay the full amount for my sign up and gave me no coupons for the free chicken, tp etc.
What did I do for 18 months with out a membership? I just went without and since it was c19 going on I cancelled my membership because they were no longer handing out samples so I decided I no longer wanted a membership and just shopped at wammies instead.
I contacted customer service 877 number to follow up on my original call a few days ago where I had let them know my holiday22 groupon code for $45 cash card on exec membership plus auto pay wasn't working and lucked out and got someone (Jenny) who said she had the authority to give me my 45 dollars in the form of a discount back onto my card I paid with which she promptly did without any problem.

Would you even save that much annually? Costco gas has LONG lines, limited hours and is only a few cents cheaper.
IF you join rewards programs of Exon/Shell/Marathon etc etc - you can get discounts on gas. Plus better quality, no lines, 24 hour flexibility etc etc.
I purchased the regular membership, and I didn't even use a Visa card for sign up, I used a MasterCard!

The email was in Junk folder. Weird! Fortunately, I was able to locate it and retrieve the card!
