If you're getting your hopes up about this, and thinking you'll be "the exception" to all the negative experiences...prepare to be disappointed. Read the previous thread about last week's Walmart + promo. There are 10+ pages of complaints. Walmart didn't even have the "Buy" button at noon, it was immediately replaced with OOS. I repeatedly refreshed the page from 11:40 - 12:30 and it was constantly OOS.

Walmart isn't trying to sell TV's, they're selling W+ memberships. I was gullible too, and paid for the membership, and thought I'd get a TV...at 12 noon, in the middle of the day, when MILLIONS of people were watching this highly promoted sale. Nope. Instead, I got the 55" from another SD post for Target for $199 on Sat night at 2am. Already have the TV in hand. That thread is full of positive experiences.

Granted, one guy said he went into the physical Walmart, and at noon they price matched the TV with the online price, and he walked out with it. Might be the way to go. Otherwise, don't get your hopes up. Another "deal" at noon that sounds "too good to be true".... Fool me once... Just my 2 cents. Good luck!

I bought one of these 3 years ago when it sold for $300. Still going strong.

If they keep it OOS, like it currently is, until noon on the 7th, there's a better chance of getting one. The Hisense deal last month didn't start until 12 noon, but Walmart let those that bought earlier at a higher price get adjustments.

I paid $500, 5 years ago...still going like Energizer bunny. I use it about 8 hours a day on lowest brightness setting.

He is talking about Element though. I would hard pass on anything Element without getting an extended warranty.
It comes with a 2 year and the offered extended warranty is only for 1 more year beyond that. When you're paying $200 for a TV, $40 for 1 year of warranty doesn't make much sense to me. Extended warranties are pushed so hard because they're such a money-maker. They rarely pay out anything.

Point being is that if this is really only a 60Hz set, then you don't really need to worry about motion smoothing, SOE, etc, because those were not really issues on anything below 120Hz sets. This would still fall in line with my observations of the 55S20 set - which is that it is rare, but not impossible to notice some motion smoothing on certain content.
Thanks for the info. However, movies and most streaming content are 24 - 30 fps, so even if these sets "smoothed motion" up to 60Hz/60fps, it would still look terrible for most content. And definitely give a "soap-opera effect".

However, I've been reading reviews on the TCL 55S455 which looks identical to this in every spec, including look, exact measurements, and weight, and it seems that the 55S455 does not even have any motion smoothing at all.

So that is why I am asking if anyone can confirm that the 55S41 either has no motion-smoothing, or that it can be turned off.

As one of the main commentors at the beginning of this thread on the last debacle with W+'s BS bait and switch on these tv's....I just got one! I happened to be reading the comments, saw the deal was live...and my order went through. Granted, it hasn't been delivered, but I'm optimistic.

Granted, I still stand by my earlier comments that the first W+ TV offers were a sh*tshow of bait and switch, but hopefully they have learned. If this TV actually gets delivered, I may keep my W+ membership....maybe. They lost a lot of trust, but maybe they can get some back. Just thought I'd update the thread.

Exactly. I used Costco credit card to extend the warranty, even though I have a Target Red Card.

I'm confused. You quote my post where I state that there is no motion smoothing asking for someone to confirm if there is motion smoothing?
You stated that (to your eye) the set did have motion smoothing applied, and that the feature could not be disabled in any menu. So yes, I am asking if someone else has noticed motion smoothing on the 55S41 or a similar model, and (if it is there) whether it is possible to disable it.

Sorry if my last post was confusing.

I got 2 shipped (in separate orders). Might be that it sold out.

Well, isn't that crazy? It shows add to cart button, I can add to cart, and it lets me get all the way to place order then says it's sold out. But I think I could check out if it was pick up at the store, though the nearest store is 3 hours away from me. Maybe they decided to stop offering shipping.

My god, the WM site is so buggy. I've tried buying three separate items including the tv. 'We're having trouble with your request'

Make sure to grab a Google TV for $39 instead of using that Roku OS.

https://store.google.com/product/...v?hl=en-US
And don't forget to install smarttube instead of YouTube so you don't get ads without YouTube premium. (Install from the GitHub repo https://github.com/yuliskov/SmartTubeNext)

I'm also using an onn 4k Android TV box which was $20 and works fine. Pays for itself after 2 months of cancelling YouTube premium

Just got one as an early Xmas present for my mom. We have these in our rental properties and we've had no issues or complaints going on 3 years.

I can all but guarantee that this model will be identical to the one I own.
Motion smoothing technologies and SOE don't really come into play with TVs that have refresh rates of 60Hz or lower. It wasn't until all the 120Hz models started coming out that people really started complaining and started trying to figure out how to turn off all the motion interpolation features.

Best I can tell all of these low end TCL TVs are native 60Hz, but use various "tricks" to try to get to a "perceived" 120Hz. TCL calls their technology Clear Motion Index (CMI), and will advertise that at 120 while trying to hide the fact that the TV is really only 60Hz.

Because it is truly a 60Hz model, there normally wouldn't be any SOE, but because of their CMI trickery it does *sometimes* create an effect. They don't give any options to disable this, likely because they don't think it needs anything because it isn't doing really high end interpolation.

All I can tell you is that I'm the guy that always goes over to people's houses and says "ugh...you've got SOE going on" and I try to show them how to turn off the motion features because I absolutely hate it. Even my wife who is fairly sensitive to it, and also dislikes it can't notice it like I do. When we go places and I tell her I notice it, she says she doesn't and then I prove to her that it was on by toggling the options.

So, for what it is worth - I can tell when a TV has it enabled, and I hate it. But, with this TV I did not notice it at all really in the first few days/week that I was testing it. It is few and far between when I see a scene where it really looks SOE to me and even then it is usually fleeting.

Now, just like any 2 TVs, if you put it right up against another TV with all smoothing truly turned off you might notice a difference, but I never use that comparison because if you always put your TV against another you'd always see how much better the other TV is (if you buy budget TVs).

I live with this as my daily driver and am very rarely bothered by any SOE. In fact I wouldn't even say I'm bothered at all by it, I just occasionally see a scene that brings out something that I equate to motion smoothing.

I wouldn't let this be the make or break for you without trying it. If this is in your price range and you can get one, I say get it and try it. I can't believe you will be more sensitive and adverse to the effect then I am - but to each their own.

I missed last weeks deal due to it being OOS immediately, but my wife got it instore no problem, complete with a price match. Today, however, I was able to checkout with the TCL deal no problems. Site crashed at first but after a moment or two I was able to add to cart and checkout by 12:05.
