Closest Microcenter to me is about 4 hours away. I cry myself to sleep every time I see awesome deals at their store. I plan to make a field trip there some day.

I was able to reserve a combo this morning (11/8) at around 5:30am at the Tustin, CA location. It said 25+ were available at the time, but by the time it hit 7:30am they were all gone. Just giving some hope for those looking at this deal. Keep an eye for those restocks!
Did you have some sort of notification set for this or just luck of checking at the right time?

I just happened to catch it at the right time. I saw this one first thing in the morning, so maybe the Microcenter restocks reflect on the website overnight?

[QUOTE=muscletone;158859289]Reserved 1 at Cambridge MA for $337 (after tax + $25 1st order coupon + $10 Discover statement credit). Thanks OP! My first rig in 15 years, so I'm quite rusty. I assume the back panel USB ports are backward compatible since I have several USB 2.0 external drives laying around. Any good deals on DDR4's - 4x16gb or 2x32gb sticks? TIA![/QUOTE

Best deal I can find on DDR4s is CORSAIR - VENGEANCE LPX CMK32GX4M2E3200C16 32GB (2PK X 16GB) 3200MHz DDR4 C16 DIMM Desktop Memory - $90 @ Best Buy

I've called Asus about backward compatibility of the back panel USB ports and the answer is yes.

I actually agree with you, DDR4 ram is perfectly fine for 12th gen and even 13th gen intel cpus. Personally, I like upgrade paths for my hardware, and if i'm going to start with cheaper DDR4 RAM, I'm going to want to be able to upgrade the DDR5 down the line (easier to drop in a couple of new RAM modules than replace entire Mobo) All this depends on your use case.
The problem is you can't just start with DDR4 RAM and then upgrade to DDR5 down the road without changing out the Mobo anyways.

I just put in my order for the free 1700 kit from Noctua. They shipped within 12 hours of my submitting the order.

3-weeks? Geeze, its going to be a long wait until I can build mine. I'm not replacing my NH-D15S.
Surprise! My Noctua socket 1700 kit came today, less than a week from placing the order.

Unfortunately, I'm still waiting for the Thermalright "Anti-Bending Buckle,Curved Pressure Plate,CPU Fixing Buckle,CPU Stress Bending Correction Fixer,Fully Fitted and Fixed Without Trace Installation."

Who came up with that description?

Microcenter has the Corsair Vengeance kit for $90 (CMK32GX4M2E3200), same as BestBuy. Not sure I'd use Silicon Power memory to save $20, but its your choice. Do you really need 64GB of RAM? I'm still using 16GB and rarely ever see more than 50% utilization. I think 32GB would be more than enough for even a power user unless you are doing something unusual.

That bracket screams FUD. Strangely, my PC seems to be working just fine without it.

Full-on encoding, my CPU sits at 64C max.

Maybe its an early Christmas miracle?

You're right about 64gb. I'll start with 32gb and if there are any fire sales on Black Friday, I'll get another 32gb to fill the slots. I've read somewhere that you may need more memory if you run a fast graphics card. Thanks!

Had to jump on this since it was finally in stock again. Gonna be quite the jump coming from my old i5 4690k to this. We for those wondering, yes the board is DDR4. The cpu is ddr5 capable but the mobo is not.

I wouldn't "fill the slots" just to fill them. Unless you see you are using more than 90% of that 32GB, there is no benefit. In fact, it may hurt stability. Most gamers say that 16GB is enough even for 4K gaming. 32GB is recommended for Video Editing unless for some reason, you get into 8K video editing, then maybe you might need 64GB.

I watched the Gamers Nexus video and determined it was worth a $13 upgrade (with tax). I figured if I'm going to run this for several years, I'd prefer it to have the most stable thermals. You must have pretty good cooling. My current 3700X gets warmer than that when encoding (I use a Noctua D15S.), but I also prefer a dead quiet case so Its in a 10 year old Fractal Define R4 which does not have the "best" airflow by today's standards.
