Closest Microcenter to me is about 4 hours away. I cry myself to sleep every time I see awesome deals at their store. I plan to make a field trip there some day.

I do use Handbrake. I never encode to h264...always HEVC. Generally, I'm around 1:1 timewise for 4k compressing to CQ21 Fast Encode.
Thanks, Repped.

Built my latest system with this combo yesterday. Very impressed.
Tested with Passmark today and got this:
https://www.passmark.com/baseline...6969420255

I did use the Thermaright socket holder and I'm glad I did. Temps are very even and cool. With my Noctua D15S, and Gelid GC Extreme, it idles around 30C and under Prime95 load it was mostly staying under 65C until the Power usage went over 150W, then I saw some cores spike to almost 85C, but then the board lowered the power down closer to 125W and temps dropped under 65C again. I haven't tweaked with any BIOS settings for power or overclocking.
Overall, a nice upgrade from my 3700X. I was contemplating a newer airflow case, but with these temps, I'll keep using my old Fractal Define R4.

These temps are using what prime95 test? All core?

Yes, all cores, using the default Blend settings.

Thank you for clarifying. I usually do the l3 cache test for worst case scenario thermal testing (alt-3). I'll usually do it in increments of 2 while monitoring temps. Fewer loaded cores mean they run at higher mhz - more heat. On amd, usually 4-6 cores (with HT on) on a 5800/5900x will result in the most heat. Higher core counts actually generate less heat as they're not running as fast.

Assuming temps from this is at a reasonable level (no higher than 80C), then i'll do the blend test, which is usually results in lower temps.

Just picked up this combo from Microcenter Chicago. I saw no stampede to get one. I'd been looking for a deal on the i7-12700k. If there's a better one going forward, I doubt it'll be much better. This seems like a solid offer.
I'll wait on a 3080 or 3080 Ti to complete the build that'll be in a Smithsonian some day. Doumo Arigatou Gozaitashimashita, OP.
Micro Center Westmont on Wednesday the 9th. Walked in to the comp department and they had about 50 of the motherboards in the store, on top of the Intel cab, on the floor in a couple of spots, Reststock! Grabbed a combo even though I don't need (5900X with a 6900X) but couldn't pass up the deal. A son and his father were looking at the Intel CPU's and had no idea that the combo deal was in stock till I pointed it out, both the father and the son were all smiles and gave me the thumbs up when they were leaving, each with a combo woot

I can confirm that it works. I was able to get this deal w/ the $25 new customer coupon this past Sunday.
I'm going to pick up my reservation tomorrow, but when I tried to get the coupon it said "for new customers only". The thing is I am a new customer; just made my account when placing the order. I think I was supposed to sign up for an account through the coupon page. Any advice on how to get micro center to apply the coupon? Is it just a promo code? If I create another account will the coupon work with my order?

Ordered an ak620 and a NH-D15. One of these better fit!
Did the ak620 fit? I just ordered it from Newegg for $50. Should fit according to the specs but would be nice to get a confirmation

Coupon comes via text, is a unique code and also in-store only. I used it fine during pickup on Friday.

Anyone else that had haswell or older kind of disappointed? Think I could have ran my 4790k another couple years, not blown away on day to day and gaming performance.
Not disappointed making the move from Sandybridge... My i5-2500k pushed to 4.8Ghz was seeing a lot of 100% CPU utilization.
