I was just wondering if you had tried using QuickSync and what the results might be compared to NVENC and CPU-only encoding.
The speed is fast, but the quality is worse than NVENC and the file sizes are even bigger.

DDR4 is a deal breaker. Why would anyone who wants a new build will do that? It's like buying a GTX 780 that's how old DDR4 is. Makes no sense for someone future proofing a new build. My last build was running strong for 7 years.
I "upgraded" to a DDR5 setup with a DDR5-6000 C32 kit and it's getting about the same performance as my prior DDR4-3600 C14 build using the same CPU (13900K). In other words, a waste of money.

We're also at the infancy of DDR5. The kits today are going to be bargain bin level in 2 years. Remember the poor saps that paid $400 for 16gb of DDR4-3000 C15 in 2015 for their then new Haswell rigs?

Why not. I got 4x 16gb ddr4 3600mhz modules in a system that's barely used. It would run fine with 32GB. So 32GB there, 32gb here. Done deal.

Don't plan on playing games so onboard video will be fine for productivity and youtube. UHD770 supports all the major codecs including av1.

12th gen supports:

Yeah, its dual Xeon E5 2697 v2 on a Supermicro X9DAI board with 64GB RAM (the board has 16 RAM slots and I had a boat load of 4GB DDR3 Registered laying around, so why not?)

Be careful with some of those cards in regular systems... I had a set recently cause conflicts with the BIOS and 1/3 of my RAM went missing. Turns out I had to disable a couple pins on the PCIe slot with kapton tape and then it was smooth sailing.
I have 3 such cards, didn't have to disable any pcie pins to get 'em working. There are a bunch of variants though so ymmv. I bought the IR versions and flashed 'em myself. If you flash the bios expect lengthy bootup times. Bios is only needed if you need to be able to boot from any of the drives connected to the controller. Otherwise not necessary. I've got one in my main box right now (5900x/asus x570-e strix) with all 8 drives populated and 4 of the onboard sata. Lots and lots of storage (and heat) Smilie.

Just picked up this combo from Microcenter Chicago. I saw no stampede to get one. I'd been looking for a deal on the i7-12700k. If there's a better one going forward, I doubt it'll be much better. This seems like a solid offer.
I'll wait on a 3080 or 3080 Ti to complete the build that'll be in a Smithsonian some day. Doumo Arigatou Gozaitashimashita, OP.
Same at westmont. I did open the board instore to make sure no bent pins on the socket. It's an hr's drive one way so don't want to make the trip twice. In fact, I advise anyone buying an intel board instore to inspect before leaving.

Yeah I've bought a bunch of these HBA cards and flashed over the years, and only in this last build did this catch me. I am not sure why it never occurred in other machines. I thought I had fried my memory controller somehow. Apparently other people have said their machines just completely refuse to boot when them in there and the pins connected, others don't have problems, and some have flaky systems.

I also remove the BIOS from them so they boot faster, I always boot from onboard SATA on my machines. The last TrueNAS machine I built I used some old 16GB m.2 SATA cards on a bracket and used them for the boot drive. Worked pretty good since that OS only uses about 8-9GB. I also use two so I can mirror them since they are old drives, saved my bacon at least once already. Only pay $2 or so for each drive so that's fine with me. LMAO

Related question...any deals on midrange mini atx intel mobo's and cpu that aren't power hogs? Looking to upgrade an 8 yr old setup using an i3-6100 in a Thermaltake core v1 case. I'd like to reuse my one stick of ram. Lol.

My microcenter had 21 combos this morning and only has a few left. If something better comes along there a 30 day return policy.

15 days for cpu/proc unless they started the holiday returns early.

Does this mobo come sealed? Cause mine had no seal and the antistatic bag isn't sealed either
