"All but the most basic?" Can you document that?

In my experience 8GB Win 11 is has no performance hit except for highest-end gamers (who would not buy this anyway) and people who frequently have more than 40 Tabs open, which is a distinct minority.

How much RAM do you need? There are a lot of opinions but not many real tests I can find. This test backs up the 8 is just fine for most view. [laptopmag.com]

Soldered RAM seems to be today's "No HDMI kills the deal" bugaboo. Sure it would be psychologically comforting to be able to add RAM, but in reality it would be wrong for most people to dismiss this deal because of it.

I have been waiting for a 13-14" 2 in 1 with great reviews, screen and specs for cheap. In for 1.

since Microsoft Teams has become standard issue on Windows laptops, 8gb is not enough even for normal use cases anymore. Teams brings my surface laptop 4 to a halt about 50% of the time with very little going on when Teams is in the mix.

At this size, i'd rather have a 1.1k screen and 16gb ram.

Always a trade off with budget prices. Here it's the 8gb nonupgradeable ram that makes it tough to recommend for all but the most basic use scenarios.

Had to jump on it. I recently updated a couple of years old Yoga to a newer gen IdeaPad Flex 5 and, while happy with the specs, miss the Yoga's build. Back to Yoga I go. Big Grin

Been using an 8GB laptop since Feb and it works just fine for not the "most basic use scenarios" as well.
Obviously you can't game or do heavy photo editing on this.

I agree, except for gamers, or more advanced rendering or graphics work, there would be no purpose to any more than 8gb of ram. For the average person who browses web, uses office documents, watching videos... 8gb is more than adequate for the foreseeable future.

Bought the 16" version open-box version of this back in august when it was on sale for around $550. Fantastic laptop, beautiful screen, booming sound, really great build. Yes, 8GB soldered ram blahblahblah but first of all it works really well for all purposes other than games, and can you really point to a better bang for the buck with all things considered? Mine looks brand new when I got it.

well of course you can, but for people who use it, the program just eats up RAM. I just meant its now become more heavily used since Covid as well.

This is misleading though. MS teams is using the unallocated memory b/c unused ram == inefficient. If you fire up more applications, Teams will give back memory to the OS. 8gb is decent for most people, in fact I use my 8gb laptop for ml
