SWA has announced that, starting in 2023, Southwest is raising the qualifying benchmark for the Companion Pass from achieving 125,000 qualifying points to 135,000 qualifying points in the same calendar year.

You can earn it through credit card spend points, but you can also earn it through other ways such as referral points for referring people to get the card and/or spending through the spending portal or spend partners. In years past, I have gotten the companion pass pretty early in the calendar year with one card's large bonus + referral points from a few people who signed up.

If you are targeting the companion pass, get the card now, but remember not to complete the full initial spend of $3,000 until late December 2022 or Jan 2023 -- and after your December billing statement closes (but still before the 3 month window from when you were approved). This is so you get the bonus in 2023. Then do other things in 2023 to get to 135,000 qualifying points, and you will have a companion pass for the rest of 2023 and all of 2024.
Yes! The best plan is the qualify to earn the companion pass in early 2023 and the CP goes the rest of the year and all of 2024!
Yes, but you should make sure both bonuses hit in early 2023 (instead of one bonus hitting in late 2022 and one hitting in early 2023)...Track your spending.

I can think of one practical reason to stagger the 2 applications, and that's to give yourself more time to meet the $6,000 spend between the 2 cards. I would usually try to meet the spend on 1 card (or get close to completing it), then apply for the 2nd card and start working on that one.

Of course, some people have no problem spending $6k in 3 months, but I personally feel more at ease trying to do it in 4 - 6 months.
Honestly, you should be using the spend on regular monthly expenses, like bills, pre-pay insurance or even your house payment if accepted. Its not wise to try to get this deal and try to spend on things not needed. Not saying you are, but it shouldn't hard to reach unless you shouldn't be trying to cash in on this deal in the first place.

And the original question was more related to the approval process. The 2 cards approval will have nothing to do with each other occuring at the same time.

Good luck!

75k point is how much cash?
Nothing, you can't get cash for them.

You could get gift cards, some at 1 cent a point (so $750 worth of gift cards)

But you get significantly more value for flights (nearer $1250 for 75k points... or arguably $2500 if you also got a companion pass out of the deal)

Yes, but it does delay your earning of your companion pass, just so you know.

Can folks report their experience of which credit bureaus were used by Chase, so we only unlock our credit from the relevant one.

If I do the Priority card now - do they allow you to downgrade later, if you decide it isn't worth while? I don't want to cancel it entirely and have that hurt my credit.

Yes the cards can be downgraded but make sure you do it close to your anniversary, so you get the full year's benefit at the higher tier, for which you've already paid higher fees in advance.

Also, if you're at least an infrequent flier, it's worth it to keep the card at the highest tier. The $75 credit and the excess bonus miles you get each year are worth the difference between the fees at the lowest tier and the highest tier, for most.

This offer does NOT require that you have a business.

If you are applying for the business card, then, usually you do need a business.

However, in years past, people have said that they apply as a sole proprietor business as themselves for such things as selling on EBAY with their own Soc Sec Number and try to get the business card that way, but that is just what I have heard. I have never tried it personally, but I have applied for the business with a small LLC that has been used and been approved that way before. Google it. This has been discussed before.
I've tried the sole proprietor thing sevearal times and it has NEVER worked for me. I'm sure I'm going something wrong.

Trying to refer my wife so I can get 20,000 points also, but the referral link I got sends me to a page that shows only 50,000 bonus points. Anyway around that?

Nope. Not to my knowledge as to the individual cards and this 75k bonus.

[[But for the business card, I think the referral link bonus matches up with the current offer so someone could get the referral plus the business bonus offer.]]

Any idea if there is a way to see when you last received a bonus?
Some ideas....

Chase.com (Statement history)
or

Southwest.com (rapid rewards history for past (almost) 2 years)
or

Slickdeals.net history (if you clicked "I bought this" at the time, and then estimate how long it took to get the bonus)
or

Email history (if you can find something from chase saying you were approved and the credit limit))
or

free annual credit report at www.AnnualCreditReport.com to see when the account was opened.

And
It would be a good idea (from now on_ to track when you apply, get approved, get bonused and cancel cards in a word document or excel spreadsheet.

Did you apply the business card first, or did you apply both on the same day, or apply them several days apart?
Applied to both right away, with business card first. Got both approved within 10'ish min.

Fair point, what I described would mean a delay in earning the companion pass. One could still earn the CP between February and April, so 1 to 3 months later doesn't seem like a huge loss.

Any rationale for applying for the business card first that you can share please? Congrats too!

My pleasure!

I'm no expert but have been waiting to do this for a while. Also was approved for both same day but in a pickle now because I wanted the higher promotion. Currently have the Business Card and working on the $5k spend but I cancelled the Priority Card and waiting for re-approval but it wasn't 24-48 hours like their customer support said...

I should still be ok as long as I get re-approved before 12/5.

Good luck!

Is there any indication of when this offer ends? I recently cancelled a Chase Southwest card and want to ensure that the old account doesn't prevent the new sign-up bonus. In a perfect world I would wait a month before applying, but not if it means missing out on the 75k points.
