SWA has announced that, starting in 2023, Southwest is raising the qualifying benchmark for the Companion Pass from achieving 125,000 qualifying points to 135,000 qualifying points in the same calendar year.
You can earn it through credit card spend points, but you can also earn it through other ways such as referral points for referring people to get the card and/or spending through the spending portal or spend partners. In years past, I have gotten the companion pass pretty early in the calendar year with one card's large bonus + referral points from a few people who signed up.
If you are targeting the companion pass, get the card now, but remember not to complete the full initial spend of $3,000 until late December 2022 or Jan 2023 -- and after your December billing statement closes (but still before the 3 month window from when you were approved). This is so you get the bonus in 2023. Then do other things in 2023 to get to 135,000 qualifying points, and you will have a companion pass for the rest of 2023 and all of 2024.
Yes! The best plan is the qualify to earn the companion pass in early 2023 and the CP goes the rest of the year and all of 2024!
Yes, but you should make sure both bonuses hit in early 2023 (instead of one bonus hitting in late 2022 and one hitting in early 2023)...Track your spending.

Is there any indication of when this offer ends? I recently cancelled a Chase Southwest card and want to ensure that the old account doesn't prevent the new sign-up bonus. In a perfect world I would wait a month before applying, but not if it means missing out on the 75k points.
773 Fico8, $200k+ income with ~$3,100 of total monthly recurring debt, and a Sapphire Reserve card in good standing and got an 'application under review'. WTF.

Pretty normal. I actually had to submit my Drivers License for address and birthdate verification.
Any rationale for applying for the business card first that you can share please? Congrats too!
Rationale is based on belief that business card would be harder to get approved than personal card, so if business card didn't go through, then I would've given up on the deal and not apply for a personal card (which I know will get approved).
I'm no expert but have been waiting to do this for a while. Also was approved for both same day but in a pickle now because I wanted the higher promotion. Currently have the Business Card and working on the $5k spend but I cancelled the Priority Card and waiting for re-approval but it wasn't 24-48 hours like their customer support said...
I should still be ok as long as I get re-approved before 12/5.
Good luck!

I think people have had success sending secure messages and calling in to request matching the offer. The downside is you'll have to message or call them again once you've completed the minimum spend for the bonus.
But looks like your boat has sailed for requesting matching the offer.

Not bad. I had done this circus for my spouse about 5 years ago and we had done the same, i.e. applying for business card first. But I really didn't recall why. This is a very good basis in my humble opinion. Cheers.

I called and they said I had to meet the $3k spend before 12/5 to have it changed.
That's ridiculous since I had my card for all of 2 days when it changed from 50k to 75k pts. I could understand the $1k spend before 12/5 but not the entire 3 months spend.
Anyway, on my way as you said. Hopefully it turns out great. Just a little extra work for the end goal of 155k pts + 8k pts spent AND CP for all of 2023 and 2024. Probably free flights for both years for 2 people...

I agree with Bub. Not unusual. It's often more about identify verification than credit qualification.
for people who have applied and been approved, how long did it take to get the card?
Was approved for the Priority on Wednesday, wondering if I'll get it this week

I was approved on a Tuesday and received the following Monday. Says 5-7 business days I think.

Another reason is that business card also needs to comply with 5/24, but it doesn't count for the personal 5/24.

Just re-opened the original account with the 50k promotion. Not worth risking it all and missing out on the CP.
75k + 50k + 10k 2023 CP boost pts = 135k which qualifies me. Also only have to spend $6k instead of $8k.
Good luck everyone!

However, the SWA business card applicant bonus seems the same as from a referral...but not this 75k individual card deal.
