You can earn it through credit card spend points, but you can also earn it through other ways such as referral points for referring people to get the card and/or spending through the spending portal or spend partners. In years past, I have gotten the companion pass pretty early in the calendar year with one card's large bonus + referral points from a few people who signed up.
If you are targeting the companion pass, get the card now, but remember not to complete the full initial spend of $3,000 until late December 2022 or Jan 2023 -- and after your December billing statement closes (but still before the 3 month window from when you were approved). This is so you get the bonus in 2023. Then do other things in 2023 to get to 135,000 qualifying points, and you will have a companion pass for the rest of 2023 and all of 2024.

People have different reasons (for instance, people say....'I sell things on EBay', and other reasons).
I would say it generally works, but there is no guarantee.
It is probably a good idea to apply for the biz card before you apply for the personal card (if you are planning on doing both).

Get the individual card and its 75k bonus, plus two 20k referrals with two other people getting a card, plus 10k in spending (7k more over the 3k initial spend) would get you there. In years past, I have successfully referred just a couple people and that put me over the top for the companion pass -- (along with the initial bonus too, in the same calendar year).
You could always get the lower tier business card. It's 60k points for 3k spend.

I am the OP on this deal. The OP link doesnt show you the two options for two different BIZ card offers. It only shows the Performance Biz ($5,000 spend $199 annual fee and 80k bonus).
But there are two biz cards....PERFORMANCE BIZ card and the PREMIER BIZ card.
If you DM me, I can send you the link that has both offers (75,000 on all the personal cards...and one Biz card for 60,000 bonus points and one is 80,000 bonus points.)
(Premier Biz is the lesser 60,000 bonus points, but only $99 annual fee and only $3,000 spend instead of 80k, $199, and 5k spend)
Something else to consider. If you are targeting a companion pass with a biz and individ card, you will only need the $75k+60k anyway.
I am telling you specifically about this because it would be 'safer' for you to apply for the 'other' biz card. If you read the TERMS of the BIZ card, there should be no way they can deny you the 'other' biz card. That's how I read it. Read it for yourself...
"This new Cardmember bonus offer is not available to either (i) current Cardmembers of this business credit card, or (ii) previous Cardmembers of this business credit card who received a new Cardmember bonus for this business credit card within the last 24 months"
note the words "this" business credit card.

Hi, I'm just stumbling across this deal today, and as I make my way through all these pages, you definitely seem to have a good handle on it, so I figured I would ask you. I saw someone say today is the deadline for the personal card with the 75k, and I'm not sure about the biz card. From what I've been reading, it's best to apply for the Biz first, and then personal, so Is it to late to make this deal work out, so a companion pass can be earned for year 23/24?
