Some quick research reveals the RAM is soldered but has an open SODIMM, open slot for SSD, and original MSRP OF $620 about 18 months ago. 12th gen Intel is a significant bump in performance, but for under $300, this isn't too bad. Not sure about display. The 2 year warranty makes this a decent value, even though the processor is mediocre. Not sure, but some credit cards might add another year of warranty. In that case $100/year for an upgradeable notebook is a good overall value. I'm tempted, but everyone has different needs.

And you plan to purchase it at MSRP?

It is regularly on sale for $450 everywhere. You get what you pay for.
At $300, this is a great basic general purpose machine.

This is a FHD 14" display which is what the ppi is saying.
The display is fine.

from Tom's Hardware:

With an average of 258 nits, the display is a bit dim, though brighter than competing models like the Asus VivoBook and Lenovo Yoga C740, measuring at 248 nits and 250 nits, respectively. The screen is fine for night-time work but can make the Aspire 5 hard to see in brighter light.

read the walmart reviews on this acer A514-54-501Zr. A few had bsod's. Tempting was looking at some cheaper used ones. It is refurbished though so maybe acer fixed the issues.

I don't get these type of comments. 250 nits is higher than you will usually run the screen. If you need direct sunlight viewing, sure, find a better model.

What's "15 percent Acer discount"? Price shows as $339.99 for me.

My wife uses her laptop at criminally low levels of brightness, I made fun of her for it with a new one I have as an option and showed her:

Hey it has your favorite brightness setting! *TURNS SCREEN OFF*

Anyways, funny thought is I buy her something like this and see if she keeps it at the same RELATIVE brightness or if she puts it at the same "percentile %" when I see her press the button for adjusting it... she keeps her 2016 air at like 33% level 😭

EDIT: It's still on, just was looking at the 13.5 which is 389 instead of 330

OLD:
Yeah I'm circling back to this, seems not $289 anymore

389 - 58.50 (15% discount),= 330 + tax (california = 29 + 4 recycle fee)
