If you are willing to gamble a bit, AAFES has done 25% off these watches for black Friday the past couple years.

Why would someone own a Omega vs a Rolex? I'm in the market for a new Rolex but Omega caught my eye
Rolex is difficult to get. You have to ask to be put on a waiting list where you may never get a call. In the secondary market, they cost more than new ones. Rolex is more of a flex brand. People want them because everyone knows the brand.

Omega on the other hand is still a very high-quality watch. It's a well-known brand but not as known as Rolex. Both brands have storied histories. It really depends on why you want to buy a watch. If you are buying it to please yourself, find the one that you like best and go with it. If you want to flex for others...Rolex.

No it will not. Bought my seamaster from this website and contacted omega about it and they said this website is not a authorized dealer even tho I've seen some ppl getting their cards signed. My card did not come signed.
This is very bad information. AAFES is an AD...their watches are shipped straight from Omega.

Do these watches appreciate in value like Rolex?
If you bought this watch today, You could sell it for a small profit. In 6 months, if you didn't wear it, you could sell it for a small profit. If you wear it and it gets scratched, it will go down in value. How much is based on how bashed it gets. On the secondary market, Omegas hold their value but don't normally go up for a very long time.

Been interested in creating a "family heirloom". . Life comes at you fast and very few things create a lasting memory but I would love to get a watch that can be passed down the generations (assuming people will continue to want to wear regular watches in the future I guess!). Hard to decide what to get though. I wouldn't want it to be something that will be a huge target for theft for instance so something like an Omega might be right up my alley. Anyone have any recommendations/pointers?
When Omega released the quartz James Bond Seamaster with the movie Golden Eye. Everyone bought one. It was hugely popular. Today's version of that watch with the bracelet would be my pick. That or a Speedmaster. For daily wear, I don't think you can beat a Seamaster 300m Diver in blue on a bracelet. It will take a beating and is timeless.

The memories that you will create with a watch like that... I have two boxes full of watches, but find myself often reaching for a Hamilton Khaki Auto. It is one of the least expensive watches I own. I don't feel like I will get knocked in the head while traveling with it on my arm. I have built a relationship with that watch more than any other. When I get an opportunity, I will replace it with a Seamaster.

These changes take away from speedy. Omega has countless models with those features. Speed was special because it was simple and as close as possible to original. Now it's just another seamaster
Long time Speedy fan/owner. I'm going to disagree with you. I frankly think the cosmetic updates are all great (although I really wish there were a hesalite model with an Applied metal logo - I don't like the sapphire ones). The original had a 321 column wheel movement - this was changed to the 861 movement in mid 1968, but that movement never went to the moon.

While the new movement is definitely an excuse to raise prices, it doesn't really take away from the watch - the coaxial movement was added to the base 1861 through a re-working. It is not used in any other watch.

Appreciate the response and yes those are definitely watches Id consider. Alternatively and less flashy brand wise I guess would be a Tag Aquaracer or a Tudor BB. Would love a Breitling Navitimers or Panerai but they are either too expensive, or too large for my wrist. You're right to imply that an heirloom piece doesn't need to be.. And perhaps shouldn't be very expensive. Id just want it to be timeless and reliable and am not averse to quartz for that reason.

I have a 1964 omega. Any online places to get it appraised?

They aren't the best about providing signed warranty cards. You can reach out to the manufacturer and they will send you the proper documentation. This goes for most of the brands they sell.

Some brands accept the original sales receipt from AAFES. Some require you to have a signed card. The manufacturer can get you what you need.
One thing to note is that the official warranty card adds a lot of value to the watch should you go to sell it later. So I'd really try to get that if you can.

That isn't true. I bought an omega from them. and it shipped to me directly from SGUS in Secaucus, NJ...no way the watch ships direct from the manufacturer for a dealer who is not authorized.
https://imgur.com/a/2rtWKBn Customer service said otherwise when i contacted them last year after my purchase. Wanted to get my card signed but to no avail.

The rep was wrong. Aafes is an authorized retailer and even many responses to the same thing on omegas forum

bought a few omegas when I was active duty.... looks good but brand pricing volatility makes them a (imho) a lesser investment than R's. too bad these timepieces are just sitting in watch winders now that xiami bands are my dailies.... good buy if you still want to wear a traditional watch regularly...

Omega did a major redo of the Speedmaster. It hacks now, finally, and features Omega's Co-Axial Escapement movement. On the outside, they made subtle changes that make it look more like earlier models.
When did they do this? How can I tell if a Speedmaster has these changes?

Is this site reputable? looks like a flea market type of site with everything from sofas to casettes being sold.
