Thanks so much for posting this. I realize others may complain that some other SSD is better but for $20, it makes an old laptop perform much faster and avoids having to buy a new machine. I've installed about a half dozen SSDs and the difference was very noticeable.

Inland is Microcenter's "House" brand. They sell all sorts of stuff sourced from all sorts of places under this brand, so one can't really call it good or bad overall.

I have successfully used many Inland SSDs, but did actually have one 256GB SATA drive flake out, but not completely fail. Was always causing BSODs as a system drive. Despite the drive not being totally dead, and having to take my word for it regarding the flakiness, Microcenter let me exchange it in store for a new one without any hassle (I had the receipt, but this was over a year after purchase).

That's a great deal for the size. I've only purchased one myself. Lucky enough to never have an SSD fail on me, but wonder about others experiences.

I've probably bought 6 Samsung Evos, 3 PNY CS900s, 1 Sandisk SSD Plus, 1 ADATA, and 1 of these Inland drives. I also have an old crucial and Intel SSD that came with used machines that both still work.

Has anyone ever had one of these Inland drives die on them? Inland is mainly known for having cheap and kinda crappy quality accessories.

Can one buy an external USB enclosure for this? If so, is it worth the hassle?

I've had a SanDisk 240gig (non plus) fail after 6.5 years and it took down my PC. I went through diagnosing it by unplugging everything one by one and restarting each time

I only picked up a bunch of free 240gb and used a few for os and installed games. So far no problems. I'll give this 512 a shot if i can get it. Never used ssd long enough to fail on me.

I had multiple 120GB Sandisk Plus SSD's that I had used to replace the mechanical hard drive in PC's at the office fail right about the 3-year mark. No problems with Samsung or Crucial, or Inland for that matter.

One can do this. $28 for a 512GB external SSD might be worth the hassle for some. Here is an $8 enclosure. It supports UASP (recommended in an enclosure).

I've had SSDs fail on me... so far 2 ADATAs and one Kingston. ADATA replaced one that was under warranty and Kingston did as well. They'll usually fail pretty quick when they are bad, only had the one that failed after a few years.

But so far after the many Inlands I've bought none of them have died. *knock on wood*

What hassle?

These are great for enclosures. With no moving parts they are much less likely to fail due to frequent transportation like a mechanical drive.

I've had a similar drive in an enclosure for one of my RPis for years. Way faster than an SD card.
