They can be cleaned by wiping down with cleaning wipes, but I generally don't have direct contact with the mat. I still have a sleeping bag or sheets between it and myself

I had no clue acout the self inflating until i got home. i just saw they were $50 each when i looked it up before i bought them, so i figured for 11 bucks heck yea.
Then i discovered how they work.. they're so light.. and they are comfy because they are air mattresses. I think they have some kind of expanding foam inside.. and then when you open the air valve they expand, then you trap the air by closing the valve.. you can release some air to make it softer.
These things are pretty great. I personally wouldn't pay 30 bux but the design is great.
BTW i've been using the camping ones as a car seat cover/pad too. it's been pretty good for long trips. Obviously you don't want this bigger one for that... so i'd recommend gettting the backpacking style because it gives you more versatility.. and you only need the padding on the main parts of your body, you don't need like a mattress size.
Soo I would pass on this deal but i would look for the backpacking type. I also would throw it on the backseat and be very comfortable taking naps on long road trips

Anyway, all sleeping pads have an R-value, but the fact that there is none listed for this product means the manufacturer probably didn't test for one, which means it wasn't intended to be insulating or to be used in the cold. But it could be perfectly fine for warmer weather.
