About this game:
  • Inspired by the adventure and imagination that we love from classic science-fiction, No Man's Sky presents you with a galaxy to explore, filled with unique planets and lifeforms, and constant danger and action.
  • In No Man's Sky, every star is the light of a distant sun, each orbited by planets filled with life, and you can go to any of them you choose. Fly smoothly from deep space to planetary surfaces, with no loading screens, and no limits. In this infinite procedurally generated universe, you'll discover places and creatures that no other players have seen before - and perhaps never will again
  • Your voyage through No Man's Sky is up to you. Will you be a fighter, preying on the weak and taking their riches, or taking out pirates for their bounties? Power is yours if you upgrade your ship for speed and weaponry.
  • Or a trader? Find rich resources on forgotten worlds and exploit them for the highest prices. Invest in more cargo space and you'll reap huge rewards.
  • Or perhaps an explorer? Go beyond the known frontier and discover places and things that no one has ever seen before. Upgrade your engines to jump ever farther, and strengthen your suit for survival in toxic environments that would kill the unwary

If they weren't releasing massive updates every year, you might be right. But those 'free' updates (to existing users) do carry a cost that must be passed on somehow. Would you prefer they charged $5 for the unupdated base game and $20 for each DLC? Sadly, most gamers fall for that model. They'll pay $50-80 after all the DLCs to avoid paying $15 upfront....

If you ever have that question every Steam game has a section on the main product page titled "STEAM DECK COMPATIBILITY."

Top right of left screenshot. Right screenshot shows the typical breakdown if a game is not listed as "verified" of what might not be perfect.

Verified means the game should work 100% out of the box without tweaking any settings. Playable normally means the same but some minor issues may present themselves but does not affect the game running. Text might be small, you may have to use the onscreen keyboard every now and then, or the on screen prompts showing button presses might not match the actual buttons on the Deck (may say hit "enter" when it is actually the "X" on your console)

Honestly, every Steam game I have tried from Verified to Unsupported works great. Some games may not be very playable because of controls though. For example I tried playing Homeworld without a mouse...didn't go well Wink

Have over 100 total hours into this bought it 6 months after launch so I've seen the changes throughout the years. Ultimately it boils down to, do you like story driven games with direction? Pass on this. The core game is still rather unchanged. If you like to explore, build and enjoy immersive game play with solid building mechanics and traveling system this is the perfect game for you. If you like a bit of both, I would still recommend this game. At 15 dollars there are so many hours of solid content even if main story missions are not main focus of this game.

Well worth the $. Yes, it sucked at launch. After countless patches/updates/free DLC, it's quite amazing. Definitely a time sink if you're not careful. 🤓

It should be at least $20. And you should wish that every developer was like Hello Games.

Almost to the PC bargain bin, my game backlog on steam is about 45 games so I will wait.

I think this DID get down to $5 or $10 before they put a bunch of time and $$$ into fixing the game up. From what I gather, they did a great job.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O5BJVO3PDeQ Here's a 50 minute long video (jesus) about it.

I bought this game for the ps4 at Walmart years ago for five bucks when it's reputation had just started to turn positive. Best five bucks I ever spent and I think I'll buy this version so I can play on my steam deck.

I finally got around to play this game last year and must say I enjoyed it right up until the time I accidentally deleted 450 hours worth of gameplay on my PC. Only to have it also delete it on my Xbox too.

Tell me about it, traded in my ps4 pro to get a ps5. Didn't backup my saves because I had ps+ and could download my saves. Little did I know it would take me over 2 YEARS to get a ps5 and now my ps+ subscription expired, and ALL GAME SAVES ARE GONE.

Hurts to think about the combined hours gone….I'll be starting this from the beginning
