Before it gets started: no, 8GB in an Apple Silicon Mac isn't any different than 8GB in anything else. Is 8GB enough for you? Maybe, but don't kid yourself into thinking this is a magical 8GB which is "like having 16GB on a Windows PC".

"Doesn't M2 have slow SSD?"
Only the 256GB M2: it uses 1x 256GB chip (255GB M1 used 2x 128GB chips). The one here is 512GB which uses 2x 256GB chips.

"This MacBook Pro or MacBook Air?":
This is similar. Differences between 13" M2 MacBook Pro and MacBook Air:
  • Air has newer design and has a camera notch
  • Pro has a touchbar and active cooling
  • Air is negligibly lighter than Pro

I'm debating the same thing. What are main considerations we need to think about between the two (other than price of course)?

Definitely the 14" MBP. You get so much more for that it is insane. I recently settled with that and even though the needs are not pro level just knowing you are covered for months to come is good feeling. Also it breezes through everything and that screen man, it makes me just want to use the laptop over any monitors I have.

Note that the MBP 14 is "M1 Pro" while this one is "M2". I don't think Apple has come out with the M2 Pro or M2 Max yet. Also this one is 8 GB of RAM, which you can upgrade to 16 for $200. I'd go with the 14. If you have Costco then even better with the extended warranty.

The problem is, this M2 one only has 8GB of RAM, so it's much slower than the 16GB, according to the benchmarks.

Amazon, BestBuy… just got to keep an eye out. $1599 ($400 off) is the best I've seen for 14/16/512. $1999 ($500 off) for 14"/16/1TB with more cores is an even better deal.

I like your handle, apt for slickdeals… we don't need it indeed.
