I believe they meant is a lot companies who bought Herman Miller chair for employees would be selling those chairs as they liquidate from bankruptcy and the chair flood the 2nd hand market.

Herman Miller is not itself is not "a lot of companies" and will be fine like you said and will likely provide support for those 2nd hand chairs if any issues come up.

The Embody was a life change for me. Such a great investment as I am usually sitting around 7-8 on work days

Call a local dealer and you'll likely get Embody or Aeron for under $1k. That's what I did almost 2 years ago, and still love my Embody.

Every chair is on sale except the new Vantum...I've tried the Aeron (normal and tall), Embody, and Sayl's. They all don't quite have the correct ratio of seat height to arm height and leave my arms floating. Since my desk can't go any lower, I was hoping the Vantum would work, but they won't discount new products I guess.

I will put myself in the minority and say that the Embody isn't worth the money. I bought one off Craigslist for $500 about 5 years ago. It's OK, but nothing special. I think I would prefer the Aeron, with the exception that if you are sitting in your boxers, the mesh of the Aeron may not be as comfortable directly against your skin. The Embody certainly isn't worth over 1k. I also bought a Steel case Leap v2 for about $120, also 5 years ago. Both chairs were basically new. I found that to be a much better chair than the Embody. My 31 week pregnant can no longer sit in the Embody (or most any chair for that matter) so now she is going to try swapping to a $12 yoga ball.

These chairs are durable though. There has been no significant degradation after 5 years of use, and I could see them lasting a long time (at least until I have kids that spill stuff, jump on them, knock them over, etc). Definitely check craigslist, OfferUp, FB marketplace. Set deal alerts if possible. If you are living in a major city, you may be able to get something for much cheaper if you are patient and can wait a few weeks. If you are in a small town, you may have to buy off of eBay.

Bro at this price point i'd buy a new desk to fit the chair rather than the other way around.

Is it as breathable as the Aeron? I live in a hot climate and get very sweaty.

For those interested, Cort Furniture usually has used Aeron chairs for around $500 with local pickup if you have a store nearby.

With so many lay offs at tech companies, I wouldn't be surprised to find some Aerons on OfferUp for $1-200

People saying saying these are overpriced don't understand the quality of these, how long they last and what they can do for your health to correct posture. My uncle has 2 Aeron that are almost 20 years old and still in great shape. I regularly see Aeron on Facebook Marketplace that are 10-20 years old in good shape. I used to have serious lower back pain and after a month of my body getting used to my Aeron, it went away and never came back. If you sit a lot for your job then invest in your health. If you spend $1400 on a new Aeron and get 10 years out of it, that comes out to around $0.38/day. If you get 20 years of use (like many people do with the Aeron) then its only $0.19/day. Yes they are costly upfront brand new directly from HM but they are worth every penny, have a great warranty, hold their value and can help prevent costly back issues in the future. If you can get a used one for a great price then even better for some people.

We have these (aeron) chairs in our conference rooms and I absolutely hate them. Our offices uses steelchase chairs (not sure the model) and people wheel theirs in instead.

I don't get the hype around them and i'm not the only one. And at $800+, hard to justify a chair you don't like.

Wish there was a place people could test it out first before buying.
