I believe they meant is a lot companies who bought Herman Miller chair for employees would be selling those chairs as they liquidate from bankruptcy and the chair flood the 2nd hand market.

Herman Miller is not itself is not "a lot of companies" and will be fine like you said and will likely provide support for those 2nd hand chairs if any issues come up.

Call a local dealer and you'll likely get Embody or Aeron for under $1k. That's what I did almost 2 years ago, and still love my Embody.

From dealer I got Embody recently for $1410 for a spec that would have cost me $2165 from HM. It was shipped directly to me from HM factory with back detached. Took me 15 min to attach using instructions. But getting new Embody for less than $1000 is not possible now through dealer after price bumps in last couple of years

When I first went to my now job I found we had the Aeron chairs, and not knowing who/what Herman miller was, I found these were the most uncomfortable chairs I've ever sat in.

Steelcase for life lol.

I bought my Aeron from Copenhagen a couple years back when they were getting rid of their remaining models. Purchased a floor model for a decent price, and the warranty was still included. I wouldn't have spent the money, but that was when they were mailing stimulus checks. Really glad I pulled the trigger on it though. I'd love to try an Embody one of these days though.

Protip, invest the money in one of these instead of a trash gaming chair. Your butt and back will thank you many many years later and the chair will still be there.

I think these chairs are overrated. I got two of the aeron in size b. One for my myself and one for my mom. I think it's a nice chair and looks nice but no where near worth what they are asking for. I got the fully loaded ones with the adjustable back support thing. I got them during the whole corona outbreak thing and everyone was staying at home. I rarely use it now.

I'd recommend finding a place to try these first. Even if it's just a second hand store. I did that thinking I'd find a like new one for 50-80% off and found heavily used ones were still $500 and they would not budge on the price. I had read multiple places online that they'd be cheaper and in better condition but oh well. It was still nice to try them and actually convinced me to just buy a brand new one. These are well worth the cost if you care about your back and have the money. This 20% off is the best deal I've seen for a new one.

As others have said if you have a Herman Miller dealer nearby you can get better deals and go try them out, plus they offer more fabrics as well. I got an Embody for $1323.00 at the dealer that if I bought it with the same customizations online after taxes even with the 20% off would be almost $1800.00. Since this is a big purchase I would really recommend going in person to actually try out their stuff if you've never had a Herman Miller before. For my use case I recommend one, I am in grad school writing my dissertation so I usually spend about 8ish hours a day at my desk and it really was night and day for my back moving from a cheaper Office Depot chair to my Embody.
