Other packs use LEDs on the outside to report charge status, that's it. Other packs also don't have intelligent thermal monitoring of *both* the iPhone and pack.
And lastly, this is the only pack that can be reverse wirelessly charged via the iPhone's Lightning port.
So yeah, it's a little more than just a Qi coil.
Also, the $15.00 Citi off stacked nice on this and made the price right around what it should cost.

I've borrowed this pack from a friend before, and I think it's a very good product. It has smarts to not overcharge your iPhone past 90%, avoids overheating your iPhone, has great iOS integration, can now do 7.5w charging (as of a recent SW update), and most importantly, it can double as a MagSafe charging puck. I think it's totally worth the premium over the generic MagSafe battery packs out there.
Everything I've heard about the Anker ones is that they get very hot. The Apple one doesn't, it does heat management way better. The trade off is lower capacity. But the integration with the Apple battery is way better.

I've been meaning to ask for a legit answer. I've read at worst it would shorten your batteries life from like 8-6 years and it's irrational. But then others acts as if it destroys the battery. Anyone know? Is it just the nature of it being high capacity and even if apple came out with their own it would be the same?
Like my phone gets hot from regular MagSafe and other chargers but no one trips out about that.

"Integration" is that the iPhone will track and display the pack's current charge on the battery widget and control center. The pack communicates between the iPhone as well to limit charging when the phone or pack gets too hot.
