a lot of the reviews comparing the HD 599 vs HD 560S say that technically the 560S sound better but have harsh sounding highs but compared overall the 599 has more relaxed & warmer sounding highs & mids.560S harsh highs revealing more detail in the music can't go wrong with either of them both great sounding for music.i really enjoy the sound of the 599 personally and from some one who has also owned the audio technica m50x the 599 are way better sounding headphones.

these are low impedance and anything will drive them with ample volume.

This or 560s?
560s all the way unless you want MEGA MID BASS.

These make the FIDELIO X2HR sound neutral.

I will be using for my digital piano only. Is the 599 good enough or should I get the 560?

Bought these 599's with a recent deal a month ago, there was zero bass. Keep in mind I was playing straight off an iPhone, but for music with bass it drove my crazy. Couldn't get the iPhones build in EQ to increase the bass at all. However, for classical or piano music these are outstanding for the price. For my usage, I ended up returning.

these definitely have some nice mid bass seems like your iphone isn't powerful enough to get the best sound quality out of these, a portable headphone amp would've helped with that.

Is the 3.5mm cable detachable from the headphones like the 599 SE?

Random comment but the HD599 is my favorite headphone for live sports. It has a really exciting sound signature (bass and treble) without being sibilant, which is rare. Really great soundstage. I use this over my HD650 (work) and HD800S (movies and music) for live sports and casual listening.

How would you say the mids and bass compare to something like the Sony MX4/MX5's?

Just fyi I had the 599se which is identical to the HD599 except for the color and it was way too uncomfortable on my ears. I would get ear pain after 20 mins. Even after trying to widen the headphones by stretching them out on a box for two days. I had to return them. I don't have big ears but I do have a big head. It was disappointing because almost everyone said they were super comfortable.

Amazing, thanks OP! I saw this JUST after I placed my amazon order for the 599 SE's. I loved the deal, but really wanted the brown color ones. I'll pay $0.01 more for the color I want Big Grin Plus, anytime I can support someone other than Amazon I'm all for it. Adorama is great. Cancelled my Amazon order and put one in with Adorama. Love this deal, thanks for posting.

I'm a little confused. Just searching for the Sennheiser HD 599 on Adorama brings you to a page with a $119 price:

https://www.adorama.com/se506831.html?sterm=1YyQgj3%3AxxyNWO2XyU1D9UGQUkA0v7ytw2naR40&utm_source=rfl... [adorama.com]

But then the link here takes you to the same site with a $90 price. Is this a price match link not available to the public (link-only?)

https://www.adorama.com/se506831.html?sdtid=16179760&emailprice=t&sterm=1YyQgj3%3AxxyNWO2XyU1D9UGQUk... [adorama.com]

EDIT: Looks like email special deal.

I've 599 and prefer my SHP9500 over them for music. So in similar price range I would personally suggest 9500s over 599. I haven't tried 560s so can't compare
Just like everything audio, it's partially subjective. I can't listen to my SHP9500 without heavily adjusting the EQ. They're way too harsh in the high frequencies. They're almost painful to listen for me. Some people really like that really sparkly treble, but it's not for me. I honestly don't think I've touched my SHP9500 since I got the Sennheiser HD6XX. They're obviously in a different price range, though. The 599 would be better for people like me that don't like the really high peak in the treble frequencies.

So at a quick glance my opinion to the questions asked... These look to be a great buy if the meet your purposes. If you do music production and seek a neutral sound profile these are supposed to be great. If you want good headphones to enjoy music with exaggerated bass, look elsewhere.

Until recently I only sought the latter... but since picking up the music bug, learned the importance of neutral sound in mixing. I am tempted to buy these as a back up as they are pretty evenly rated against my current Philips Fidelio H2XR.

The end of the day speakers are subjective to the listener. I have always had a fondness towards JBL for this reason.

This is what I ultimately decided. I bought the 599SE and they are great for gaming. Only issue was that I had to buy a separate attachment to allow me to plug in my Vmoda Mic
