Same thing except it doesn't have a heatsink (used to lower temperatures on the M.2). If you're planning on using it for the PS5, I highly recommend getting one with the heatsink.

Assuming your friend is looking at the recently released 990 pro, $101 (1TB) / $189 (2TB) is a fantastic price. I've watched the 990 pro 2TB models for a couple weeks but they were only available for pre-order.
Early reviews indicate the 990 pro will be one of the top performing PCI4.0 devices on the market. Assuming a competitive price point, I'd certainly buy it over other top tier gen 2 / gen 3 PCI 4.0 NVME drives due to Samsung's brand and reliability + support record over the past ~10 years.
Now PCIe 5.0 is the next milestone... Samsung was a little slow to the party with their PCIe 4.0 gen 2 drive. Hopefully they pick up the pace on 5.0.
