Zesta saltines are $1.99 which is decent. We got some Pillsbury cookie dough (gingerbread) for like 99 cents and it was pretty good. They had a double pack of big jars of Grey Poupon mustard but they were expiring that day. I would eat old mustard without worry, but my son would freak out, and he's the main mustard consumer in the house. Oh yeah, we got cat litter too. It was not a great deal but not a bad deal.

The BigLots in Richmond/San Pablo also closed. The place had moved a few years earlier from a smaller shop across the street near FoodMaxx, and the earlier place offered a more pleasant shopping experience. I don't know if they wanted more space to move their discount furniture, but that's not where I'd go to buy furniture anyway. They have also raised prices on food, which was my main reason for going there. Now there are shops in Pinole, Pleasant Hill, Hayward -- none close to me or convenient. It will be interesting to see if they end up closing.
There are many Wags stores that have closed near us and the Bed Bath and Beyond stores are also shrinking. This is not a good trend for value conscious consumers like the readers of this forum.
I also miss Ocean State Job Lots and their wonderful spice/ baking collection. You'd think living here on the ocean I would have one but, alas, no.
I will admit to liking Ollies, especially for their spray paint, books for kids and odd food novelties. LOL
A fresh, new Big Lots opened up next to the gym so I wander over while the husband is finishing up. It's better than having nothing and when I hit the Halloween clearance at 90%, that was great.
Then the other gym has a Dollar General and a pallet store in the same parking lot but DG is often closed (staffing issues I think) and the pallet store doesnt open until 11am and that's often too late for us.
BigLots has been sending me discount coupons but they often have such poor stock that I leave without buying. BB&B is just sad. I went there to use up a GC and all I could find were refill canisters for my soda stream. There was a list of stuff I needed but their selection was pathetic. So that's all I could do. I expect them to fold because I can see no compelling reason for their continued existence. The selection and prices at other stores (Macy's, Target and WalMart, for example) are much more competitive and what they can't supply, amazon and other online retailers can.

Big Lots used to be junky like Ollie's is now. I'm not sure what/when it happened, but Big Lots are now clean and organized and much more uniform across the board. It's not a scavenger hunt like Ollie's lol
