Highly recommend ordering a custom build with the same coupon. Worth it to upgrade to the 165hz 500-nit screen.

Don't forget cashback and teacher/student savings...
The NVIDIA RTX A2000 Laptop GPU or A2000 Mobile is a professional graphics card for mobile workstations. It is based on the GA107 Ampere chip and offers a similar performance to the consumer GeForce RTX 3050 Ti Laptop GPU. It also offers 2,560 CUDA, 20 Raytracing and 80 Tensor cores paired with a 128 Bit memory bus. It is available in different variants from 35 - 95 Watt (TGP) with different clock speeds (and performance). The GPU supports eDP 1.4b to connect the internal monitor and DisplayPort 1.4 and HDMI 2.1 for external connections.

What the hell is an RTX A2000?!? I seem to have missed an announcement or two.

It appears to be a professional workstation graphics card that can do some mild gaming.
Apparently the old Quadro series is now split into NVidia RTX A and Quadro RTX. But they are still treated the same way as Quadro - validated drivers for professional workloads. It'll be cheaper for most people to use the GeForce RTX series (at this price you can go up to a 3070) unless you're doing some engineering job that requires precision.

P series is better than T for ThinkPad?
They are parallels. T is for thin and light, P is for power (at the expense of bulk).

I was playing around with a confit for the X1 carbon gen 10 and was a lot more money. Other than weight I don't see the value in the X1 compared to this deal. Thoughts?
With Lenovo you always need to find the right coupon. A lot of coupon isn't listed on their website and it is best to wait for people to post them. Can't directly compare bad coupon pricing vs good coupon pricing.

Is Lenovo good about price matching their own products if they go on sale soon after you made your purchase?

I would advise to avoid 12th gen intel CPUs due do issues with energy management and overheating. Especially for thin and light laptop. X1 yoga gen6 and x1 carbon gen9 on 11th gen intel have better heat management and battery last longer. CPU won't throttle that much due to overheating issues. I decided to go with gen9 and seems like many people too. Pls read reviews. I hope it helps.

Its not really a split. RTX is Turing and RTX A is Ampere. They've have multiple generations of engineering cards available in the past too. Quadro has long used letter prefixes. Kepler was Kx000, Maxwell Mx000, Pascal Px000.

I agree with your main point though. Unless you're using it for CAD buy something with a Geforce card.

I totally understand the reasons for wanting this kind of laptop.. it's a powerhouse of a computer, yet also thin and light for portable use. But last time I had one of these machines it did neither of these things well.

For hardcore CAD and rendering, a moderately configured desktop does the job way better than this ever could. And for portable use, your typical ultrabook runs cooler, its battery lasts longer, and is easier to carry around. And it probably still has enough power to do most CAD work. Many of these programs were developed decades ago and don't utilize modern hardware very well anyway.

If drafting and rendering is your full time job, get a good desktop. If you want a good portable device, get an ultrabook. If you want the worst of both worlds, get this thing 😂

This is inaccurate. I was just able to add to cart.

1. Log in to Lenovo
2. Verify via ID.me (This applies the student/teacher discount, there is no coupon code for this)
3. Apply coupon code

Still has the damn Fn key where the control key is supposed to be. Their Legion laptops have the correct placement, why can't they fix it on the Thinkpad line?
