While I'll admit that this is one case where you really want to cut the cord, it is still a real choice for PC VR games (played through your GPU)*. If you have a serious GPU, don't expect the internal GPUs of wireless headsets to compare. And also check if some sort of retractable ceiling mount is possible (a kludge, but connecting a wireless/meant-to-be-standalone headset to a GPU is also a bit of a kludge as well).
But it also really, really good at "sitting" simulations. But I want a reverb G3 that is wireless anyway.
* I'm an old school electrical engineer. Wires transmit both power and data amazingly well, and wireless is just iffy and keeps wanting to be recharged. But walking around blindfolded with a tether is just insane and qualifies as 'no you should never use wires in this situation'. But it really is a good headset, if sitting or you have some of ceiling mount cable management.
I have both a G2 and a Quest 2. The G2 is AMAZING for sims (racing and flight) with its beautiful screen, but I prefer the Quest 2 with Virtual Desktop for everything else. Wireless really is a game changer for the majority of VR games. I've got mine setup with a dedicated WiFi 6 router (WAX202) that I got for $30 and there is no noticeable latency or video degradation. The only time I use my G2 is for racing sims and MSFS2020.
Received mine today.
Tried FS2020, compared with my Quest 2.
Setup is much time consuming than quest, but WORKS as I like.
No disconnects or bad behaviour so far. Time will tell
Compared to Quest 2 :
Superb clarity and COLOR
Edge blur is really bothersome at first
Speaker much better (but not good enough..doesnt move back)
Robust connection to PC
Left cable side is a furnace.
Width is tight
FOV horrible with glasses
Better strap than default Quest 2, but must velcro every on/off
power button not on headset
IPD is kinda meaning less.. but works
Controllers... looks and feel and design is so inferior

Setup is plug in the headset and wait a minute for Windows to download everything and update anything needed. Then room mapping, then done.
You don't need to adjust the Velcro of the strap every time, it stretches a lot. Adjust it until it's snug when you press the back into your head, then just pull the back and it'll open up a good 5 inches.
Did you see if you can wear your glasses without the face gasket spacer? It pops right off (magnetic).
Definitely not for ACC which is a known VR hog. You would probably want at least 3090 for that or be prepared to see potato graphics in VR.
AC will be doable with rather decent graphics after some tinkering with settings and mods
Are you saying, people weren't playing and enjoying ACC before September of 2020 when the 3090 was released? LOL. Solid joke you got there.

They were, but most likely with just a flat screen and not with a high-res VR headset like Reverb G2. Even 2080Ti would not be enough for it to run at stable 90Hz at full rendering resolution (which is 3164 x 3096 per eye, mind you) and with good-looking graphics
Last time I tried VR, I really enjoyed the ergonomics and finger tracking of the valve knuckles.
However, the valve knuckles would be $280 + ≈$200 (for cheaper used vive base stations with no warranty) + ≈$50 (cheap chinese dongles on ebay to connect to the index).
I'd be looking at about $830 if I got a new Reverb G2 headset and I wanted valve knuckles. At least I could try the Reverb G2 before upgrading to the valve knuckles...
I don't know if I should just get a valve index kit if and when it goes on sale, or if I should get the G2 now, and maybe plan on getting a setup for valve knuckles later. The valve index wouldn't be a hacky solution, and it does have a higher refresh rate. I don't know how important that refresh rate is though.
Have a Quest 2 but just bought the 6900 XT and am reading the performance of AMD cards with Q2 is questionable compared to a proper PCVR headset like this, and I only play PCVR. Gonna try this and either return it or sell / give away my quest depending on which I like better. Would have started out with the Reverb originally but the Quest 2 was a lot cheaper then.
I bought this a few weeks ago. Loved it but then 1 week before my 30 days ran out, my PC no longer recognized that the headset was plugged in. I noticed that the v2 interface box was really hot. The RMA process was not bad even though I read a lot of horror stories. I packed and shipped the unit back and once HP had a tracking number they shipped me a new replacement unit. I've had my new one for 3 days and the interface box on this one runs cooler. I wasn't charged a restocking fee. I'm being extra careful with the interface box and cable. Would I recommend? A cautious yes. If it doesn't fail on me, the visuals are amazing for a headset of this price and the tracking on V2 is way better than V1 which I owned and sold awhile back.
Are you sure the issue is with the tracking box? Be careful where you plug your appliances into. Not saying its not the box, but that seems bizarre for it to fail that quickly

I gave all the details I have on the issue. The headset failed to recognize, period. I believe it was the box but cannot be 100% certain. It may have been a cable or connection to headset. Received a new headset and the headset has been working great for > 1 week now.
Does this come down to $300ish often? Is 450 that good of a deal if I'm willing to wait another 2 months. I see it was in the 300-400 range about once every 3-4 months but that's based on slickdeals posts only.

What do you mean the cable side is a furnace?
