Would these be significantly better than the 32 degrees coats?

Normally agree, but I'm proud to rep Eddie Bauer and Columbia.

Good values and it's a nice foil to all the Patagonia/NF/MH or even fancier stuff out there. It's like driving a Honda in a sea of Mercedes.

I'm wearing my EB Ascent series down today, found it at a consignment store for $30 Wink

I prefer the EB one.

I had the EB cirus lite jacket last year, but apparently lost it and just bought the 32 degrees version of it for $20. The fit on the 32 degrees one is not as nice. The 32 degrees one is a little bigger all around, I don't t like the fit as much where the EB one was slimmer. If your a bigger person, maybe the 32d one would be better. I think warmth wise they are the same. Material wise, EB may be a little better. But really it comes down to the fit, which I prefer with the EB jacket.

I'm going to order this EB one and still keep the 32d one. At these prices, neither are expensive IMO and I don't mind paying $50 for the EB one even though I just bought the 32d for $20.

I've never owned a down jacket. What temperature is this good for? Are we taking 40's or could I wear this to snowblow when it's in the teens?

I live in north east , temp sometimes drop -20F and down is the only type I wear inside , it hold heat great, I also go fishing during 30-40F temp. Down is much lighter n better heat retaining, just don't get wet, I wear grundens or Columbia PFG outside when fishing
I wear 800 fill vest at 45 40ish . But when it colder than40 I wear 800 fill jacket, key is layers up, I have 1 tank n 1 long sleeve when wear vest. When it's 10F I wear 800 fill down jacket with 2 layers inside as well, when I go fishing on a boat , it's 4 layers 1 of them is down 600 fill

Thanks! There are also a bunch of clearance deals currently, and a code that takes 50% off of those (though sadly not these items).

We buy EB stuff whenever it goes on sale. It's a great brand with typically great customer service. Stuff lasts forever; I'm in my early 40s and I still use a Gore Tex coat I got from the local EB store in high school.

I think you will be fine with some good base layers (thermal shirt, fleece, hoodie, etc.).

In the 40's I am perfectly fine with just a t-shirt and the jacket. So just add some layers as it gets colder. I live in eastern pa, and this is really all I will wear throughout the winter.

If you layer with either an insulator underneath or a wind blocking shell on top it can go much colder. Since these aren't particularly wet proof, the shell over it would be recommended for snowblowing.

Just a reminder... the FILL POWER of down (650) in this case really doesn't have too much to do with the warmth of the jacket. Fill power is a measure of the quality of the down. it's the number of cubic inches that 1 ounce of down will take up. The higher the number, the fluffier the down... so the lighter the weight for the same volume (or the same 'puffiness' of the jacket).

The more important number (or at least as important) is the QUANTITY of down (or FILL WEIGHT). One ounce of 650 fill power will not be as warm as one ounce of 800 fill power down (650 cu inches of insulation vs. 800 cu in). However, two ounces of 650 fill power down will be much warmer than one ounce of 800 fill power (1300 cu inches of insulation vs 800 cu in (not a perfect measure, but close enough)).

Also, the can I wear this is 20 degrees (or the jacket is rate to 20 degrees) question is pretty non-sensical... what are you doing? what's the wind doing? what else are you wearing? how long are you going to be out? do you run hot or cold? is the sun out?
