I don't NEED a second one, but I would like a second one...

The wife will make me sleep on the couch- The good news is, the sound setup is for the couch anyway- Thanks OP! In for one!
I would recommend against it.

Sonos products are timeless and durable.

Samsung will change their stuff every 6 months.
You got a Time Machine?

It doesn't matter what Samsung changes. HW-Q990B already does everything Sonos does , only much better. There would be no need to change unless there is groundbreaking upgrade. Which barely happens in Speaker industry anyways.

Having said that, if you are in for a decent eco system to get into, id choose Sonos over Bose. Sonos is solid.
I'm looking into both of these systems before making a purchase for the holiday sales. Does Samsung allow to add additional speakers to the system and sync all together like Sonos? I'm on the fence on which way to go. Thanks!

Sorry Samsung does not update products or fix issues a year after a product comes out. Sonos still updates and adds features to my 8 year old Sonos play base.
Well, that's not really a fair comparison. The Samsung product is actually VERY nice, but it's not really a wifi sound system like Sonos is. It's two different animals. As long as the Sonos has the hardware capability to run software updates, it will be supported. The Samsung system is just a dumb speaker setup.

Sonos are not timeless and have an EOL schedule of 5 years roughly - they will support just a matter of whether everyone else will is my understanding.

A lot of chase cards have Best Buy offers right now. Ymmv of course but make sure you look.
My capital one offer page is showing 12% statement credit back for Sonos purchases (at Sonos website) at the moment. I didn't find anything yet for best buy but will keep a look out.

Two years ago these were $499 at a regular price minus 30% healthcare coupon...
The retail price of the Sonos sub was $699 in 2016. The Sub Gen 1 was introduced in 2012 at a retail price of $599.

You are probably thinking of the retail price of the Sonos Five, which may have been $499 two years ago.

Yes, direct from Sonos.

$499 was regular price.
The Sub was never regularly priced at $499. It has always been $799, then lowered to $749. Maybe it was a Gen1 or Gen2?

They do not have an EOL schedule of 5 years. Any of the current S2 hardware should be supported for at least 10 years. Take a look at the price for a used Play:1 on eBay. The Play:1s have been discontinued for years and they're still as functional as ever.

Sonos does not do DTS X. So if you have large local media collection then don't go Sonos.

Im thinking of Samsung HE-Q990B over Sonos. Samsung seem to have built a really solid one. Beating Sonos and Bose in almost every category.
I'm also in the same situation. I ordered a Sonos Arc, surrounds, and sub from their recent deal, and then there was the Samsung HW-Q990B .edu deal that I couldn't resist. I am going to return the Sonos and keep the Samsung. I spent many hours reading/watching reviews and the Q990B is a solid product (outside of those who experience disconnect issues). I've heard very positive things about it. Mine was manufactured in September, so hopefully, there will be no issues. The Sonos system was ~$700 more on sale than the Samsung system on sale, which is a large sum of money.

Yes. I believe the disconnect was addressed in later batch of products. Id say if u can buy it from samsung website and pick it up from bestbuy it ll be easier to return in case of dropouta

I pulled the trigger on the Q990B when they had the edu price for $900. The sound is phenomenal and works great. A huge upgrade to by trash LG early gen atmos sound bar.

I was thinking about the Sonos, I like that their systems are modular and they get updated for years. The extra $700 was just too much for me.

Thanks. Repped. Had some BB credit that made this an even better deal for me. Cheers
