Instead of just saying, hey buy this phone outright and we'll give you this gift card for this much.. But no, they make this as confusing af so carriers still win in the end.

If they have not changed the process for this year, you will get the Walmart gift card emailed to you within 24-48 hours after purchase. I have upgraded this exact way 3 years in a row via Walmart because I have an old grandfathered ATT plan and do not want it changed or touched. This is the probably one of the few retailers besides ATT Corporate stores that can do upgrades or add lines without changing your current plan.

In 2019 I lined up in store and purchased 2 phones in store. It was $350 actual gift cards back then, they were loaded and activated at the time of phone purchase but they said the funds should be available after 4 hours back then.

In 2020 I did 2 lines again but it was only $300 gift cards but via email. The emailed gift cards and PIN codes came in a few hours after the phone purchases.

In 2021 I got smarter. I booked each phone's activation appointment 1 day apart. This time I upgraded 3 lines. The first $300 credit came in within 2 hours of paying for the first phone upgrade. So for the second phone's activation the next day, I used the first phone's gift card and paid down $300. Same with the 3rd phone upgrade the following day as the second phone's gift card email came in shortly same day after they processed the second activation. Therefore I am left with only 1 $300 gift card to spend later. Yes I went there 3 days in a row, lucky it's only 4 miles away and you get to reserve the phone size and color you wanted on their available phones on-hand list.

You DO NOT get monthly billing credits. This way you are never tied up for 3 years because billing credits balance is forfeited if you cancel or port out. The only situation where you may get billing credits is if you did a trade in and received $800 credit or whatever corporate ATT was promoting. But then you are REALLY tied up for 36 months if you wanted the $800 or whatever the ATT trade in promo was offering. The trade in promo billing credit deal is ONLY worth it if you plan on staying with ATT for 3 years AND if they were giving you $800 for an old cracked phone. I have never done this because the trade in promotions always required a plan change for me. Sorry I can not shed any light on this type of deal stacking as I do not want my grandfathered plan changed. Perhaps someone who has traded in as well as received the $300 gift card can share their experience here.

Please note, you ARE required to do the installment plan. There must be some kind of cell carrier kickback commissions for installment plans along with the line upgrade or new line activation commissions to the retailer. The monthly installment amount to be paid is dependent on how much you pay up front during checkout. So if the phone is $1049 and you pay down $849 plus your state's sales tax on the full amount, it will leave you with a $200 balance due, your monthly installments would be $200/36 months = $5.56 per month.

After 2 billing cycles (probably when the cell carrier commissions are paid due to Net60 terms) you can pay off your remaining balance via the ATT website and then cancel and go to another carrier and request the unlock code via their unlocking portal entering your IMEI number and cell phone number and email address. It usually takes a few days for the unlock email with the codes to arrive, a few times it came same day as submission.

For me I pay them off right before the next year's promos and request the unlock, unless I need a phone to be unlocked sooner due to international travel etc, then I would pay off that line ASAP as it may take a few days to process the unlock. Once the installments are paid off, I can quickly upgrade again via Walmart Black Friday promo, wash, rinse and repeat.

So to sum it up, you will receive your $300 gift card via email shortly after the phone purchase and activation. If you want the phone unlocked as soon as possible, do not do trade in billing credits and be tied up for 36 months. Pay down as much as you can at the time of purchase. Pay off the remaining balance after 2 billing cycles and request the unlock. For iPhones you do not have to do anything after requesting the unlock. Once you receive the email that it has been approved, just insert your non-ATT SIM card and it will re-activate the phone via Apple's server and it will be unlocked permanently, it will reboot, and probably automatically do a carrier settings update right after.

I'm an existing Version customer and just got the "We are unable to verify your address. Please visit your nearest Walmart Mobile Desk." Any advice or maybe a glitch on the site?
An earlier reply said to make sure your Walmart account shipping address matches exactly to the address you have in your Verizon account.

I ordered one with new Verizon account. How can I order another one by adding a line if it asks to login to my account but I'm unable to since I haven't get the phone to activate that account or any of that. Any way to order another one on the just created account? TIA for any help provided.

Have the same problem here. Anyone knows how to deal with it? I am new to verizon. After the first order ( $75/month) it asks me to login to add a line - but the verizon account has not been set up yet. Without logging it will be another $75/line again for the 2nd order.

Not free. "when 50% of device cost of the financed device is paid off"
You need to pay 50% and then give the phone to them. You can probably get more money by selling it on your own when you want to upgrade.

Does anyone have any experience with Ebay unlocking service for Verizon? Do they really work.? Let's say they can unlock it but will Verizon lock it again?
Not sure about eBay unlocking services for Verizon, but previously I have had multiple good positive unlocking experiences with cellunlocker dot net.

I have used them a couple of times with ATT phones that were on billing credits and no way for ATT to unlock them before the billing credit exhaustion. Their prices have gone up lately, but sign up for their promo discount codes at the website popup to help out with the cost. Overall they are 4 for 4 with me regarding getting ATT phones unlocked.

My understanding with Verizon phones, they automatically unlock after 60 days with account in good standing. You should not need to purchase unlocking services with a Verizon phone. Maybe a Verizon user can confirm this for good.

Once a phone is unlocked they stay unlocked forever and you can use it with any compatible cellular carrier.

If buying a second hand Verizon phone, you may encounter a black listed IMEI (electronic phone serial number) where the previous owner has not paid it off yet and Verizon will not allow it back onto their network.

What I learned from this thread is that I clearly don't understand enough about these apparent shell game promotions the cell carriers offer to risk signing up and getting stuck with a bad deal that would be a nightmare to unwind.

Do I keep getting the trade-in credits if I:
  1. Buy an iPhone 14 from Walmart on Line 1
  2. Activate Line 1 iphone, Trade in an iPhone 11 and get $800 and pay it off in full
  3. pay Line 1 iPhone 14 off in full
  4. Sell iPhone 14 and use an older phone on Line 1
Not sure if I'll continue to receive credits if I keep the line but don't have the phone anymore. Anyone?
Your step 2 locks you in for 36 months because the $800 credit is paid out monthly over 36 months at the rate of -$22.22 credit per month.

Nobody is able to get a two-line family plan as a new customer?

Thanks in advance.

Hello, i have xfinity Mobile. so can i port this to AT&T? also when can i unlock the phone.. can some one pls share the details so as to get gift card and also have phone unlocked
1. Select the phone you want, make sure the $300/$450/$500 eGift Card promo is listed below the monthly installment amount

2. Follow the prompts to setup new ATT account. Make sure you choose port in and follow the screens to enter your Xfinity account number and PIN code

3. Once account is setup and approved, agree to the terms, select your pay down amount if you would like to pay off a big chunk now and have lower monthly installments.

4. Checkout and pay taxes for your phone

5. You will receive a confirmation email regarding the purchase and acknowledgment that they will send you eGift Card via email after phone has been activated. The eGift Card email will contain the gift card number and PIN code. Add this to your Walmart app as payment method and when paying at any Walmart or Sam's Club register, scan the QR code on the credit card pin pad terminal with your Walmart app and that purchase will draft from the eGift Card and the app will show remaining balance.

6. Login to your ATT account after phone has been activated and see the total installment balance due by clicking on the Pay Off My Device link. Please note you can not unlock the phone prior to 60 days of service, so mark your calendar for 60 days out. You can pay it off completely at this point and wait out the 60 days total if needed. Or come back and pay it off 58 days later to give it 2 business days to post.

7. After 60 days and your installment balance is zeroed out, click on the Unlock Phone link to take you to the page to submit your unlock request. Once the Unlock Approved email arrives, if it is an iPhone you just insert any non-ATT SIM card and the phone will contact Apple Activation servers and it will be unlocked permanently, most likely it will download a cell carrier update and reboot and you are set. If it not an iPhone, the Unlock Approved email will contain the network unlock code. Insert a non-ATT SIM and you will get a pop up requesting this code. Key it in and the phone will be unlocked and be used on any supported carrier.

Now your line is free and clear to upgrade again or you can port out and cancel your account.

What i understand, if you are on the program and paid at least half way of the device's full price. Then you are eligible for the free upgrade plus $450 walmart gc

If one orders from verizon directly, there is a $200/line gift card for new customer. I guess the difference is really $100 compared to the $300 gc from walmart - if you are doing trade-in - because trade-in will lock you to 36 months anyway.

When you wrote this message, the deal was already open to all people. Inventory is dynamic, but you have to keep refreshing for a long time to catch anything that is restocked (and in very small quantity).

Verizon says
"You are currently not eligible for device financing. Please contact your carrier."

ATT says,
"We weren't able to approve your application. To learn more, call AT&T at 8003310500."

First time ever, I got a denied. I have AmEx Centurion, Capital One Venture cards etc.

As of 7:00 Pm Eastern, all phone deals are available to EVERYONE now.

The W+ Early Access was a 7 hour head start for W+ subscribers to get first dibs on the highly sought after colors and storage sizes.

You should be able to see what is currently available right now. Keep checking and refreshing if the one you want is out of stock as inventories get refreshed and phones in carts are released due to time outs and line upgrade issues.

ATT existing customer. Not planning to leave ATT. No phone to trade in, just want an iPhone 14.

I'd like a new iPhone, but don't want to be forced to switch to an unlimited plan. A few comments said they previously didn't need to switch plans to get iPhone deals, but the way I'm reading this, it seems I will have to switch. Are these terms for people who trade in old phones with AT&T?

from Terms & Conditions link: Down payment: May be required and depends on a variety of factors. Down payment if required will be either 30% of sales price or a dollar amount currently ranging from $200 to $1,400 (amount subject to change and may be higher). Examples (amounts approximate): $1,099.99 sales price with $0 down is $30.56 per month, with $330 down (30%) is $21.39 per month, or with $600 down is $13.89 per month for 36 months AT&T Installment Plan with Next Up: Price includes monthly smartphone installment payment and a separate additional $6/month AT&T Next Up upgrade feature charge to be upgrade eligible with qualified trade in when 50% of device cost of the financed device is paid off. Upgrade requires a minimum of 30 to 90 days on installment depending on credit and other factors (subject to change), account in good standing, trade-in of financed device in good physical and fully functional condition through the AT&T Next Up trade-in program (excludes trade in program where you receive an instant credit or AT&T promotion card) and purchase of a new eligible smartphone on an eligible installment agreement with qualified wireless service. After upgrade, unbilled installments are waived. Next Up $6 monthly payments do not apply toward financed device cost balance, are non-refundable, and may be canceled at any time, resulting in waiver of right to trade in and upgrade during current installment agreement term. See att.com/next and your Retail Installment Agreement for full details. Service: Eligible postpaid voice and data service is required and extra.

I have an old AT&T family share plan. We use WiFi and never go over the limit (which is low). THe last time I checked, unlimited family plans cost about $25.00/month (plus fees) more than our existing plan, so I don't want to change.
I also have a super old grandfathered Family Share plan with the buckets of data to share, I pay for the 20 gig bucket and receive 40 gigs with roll over, no throttling, no hot spot caps along with a super deep corporate discount.

I have upgraded 3 years in a row no issues at Walmart because they do not change your plan at all, no need to switch over to their "new" unlimited plans. It is the ONLY place I can upgrade my phones without affecting my existing plan.

I just upgraded again today, 4th year now, and my existing plan was untouched.

Here is the online process:

1. Select the size and color of iPhone 14 you want, make sure the "Special $300 eGift Card with purchase" promo is listed below the monthly installment amount

2. Follow the prompts for existing ATT account and make sure you choose upgrade, key in the phone number you want to upgrade, it will text you a code at that number to verify

3. Review the installment plan options, pay off up to 30% to have a lower monthly installment amount, and agree to the terms

4. Checkout and pay taxes for your phone

5. You will receive a confirmation email regarding the purchase, estimated arrival date, and acknowledgment that they will send you eGift Card via email after phone has been activated. The next eGift Card email will contain the gift card number and PIN code. Add this to your Walmart app as payment method and when paying at any Walmart or Sam's Club register, scan the QR code on the credit card pin pad terminal with your Walmart app and that purchase will draft from the eGift Card and the app will show remaining balance.
