Instead of just saying, hey buy this phone outright and we'll give you this gift card for this much.. But no, they make this as confusing af so carriers still win in the end.

If they have not changed the process for this year, you will get the Walmart gift card emailed to you within 24-48 hours after purchase. I have upgraded this exact way 3 years in a row via Walmart because I have an old grandfathered ATT plan and do not want it changed or touched. This is the probably one of the few retailers besides ATT Corporate stores that can do upgrades or add lines without changing your current plan.

In 2019 I lined up in store and purchased 2 phones in store. It was $350 actual gift cards back then, they were loaded and activated at the time of phone purchase but they said the funds should be available after 4 hours back then.

In 2020 I did 2 lines again but it was only $300 gift cards but via email. The emailed gift cards and PIN codes came in a few hours after the phone purchases.

In 2021 I got smarter. I booked each phone's activation appointment 1 day apart. This time I upgraded 3 lines. The first $300 credit came in within 2 hours of paying for the first phone upgrade. So for the second phone's activation the next day, I used the first phone's gift card and paid down $300. Same with the 3rd phone upgrade the following day as the second phone's gift card email came in shortly same day after they processed the second activation. Therefore I am left with only 1 $300 gift card to spend later. Yes I went there 3 days in a row, lucky it's only 4 miles away and you get to reserve the phone size and color you wanted on their available phones on-hand list.

You DO NOT get monthly billing credits. This way you are never tied up for 3 years because billing credits balance is forfeited if you cancel or port out. The only situation where you may get billing credits is if you did a trade in and received $800 credit or whatever corporate ATT was promoting. But then you are REALLY tied up for 36 months if you wanted the $800 or whatever the ATT trade in promo was offering. The trade in promo billing credit deal is ONLY worth it if you plan on staying with ATT for 3 years AND if they were giving you $800 for an old cracked phone. I have never done this because the trade in promotions always required a plan change for me. Sorry I can not shed any light on this type of deal stacking as I do not want my grandfathered plan changed. Perhaps someone who has traded in as well as received the $300 gift card can share their experience here.

Please note, you ARE required to do the installment plan. There must be some kind of cell carrier kickback commissions for installment plans along with the line upgrade or new line activation commissions to the retailer. The monthly installment amount to be paid is dependent on how much you pay up front during checkout. So if the phone is $1049 and you pay down $849 plus your state's sales tax on the full amount, it will leave you with a $200 balance due, your monthly installments would be $200/36 months = $5.56 per month.

After 2 billing cycles (probably when the cell carrier commissions are paid due to Net60 terms) you can pay off your remaining balance via the ATT website and then cancel and go to another carrier and request the unlock code via their unlocking portal entering your IMEI number and cell phone number and email address. It usually takes a few days for the unlock email with the codes to arrive, a few times it came same day as submission.

For me I pay them off right before the next year's promos and request the unlock, unless I need a phone to be unlocked sooner due to international travel etc, then I would pay off that line ASAP as it may take a few days to process the unlock. Once the installments are paid off, I can quickly upgrade again via Walmart Black Friday promo, wash, rinse and repeat.

So to sum it up, you will receive your $300 gift card via email shortly after the phone purchase and activation. If you want the phone unlocked as soon as possible, do not do trade in billing credits and be tied up for 36 months. Pay down as much as you can at the time of purchase. Pay off the remaining balance after 2 billing cycles and request the unlock. For iPhones you do not have to do anything after requesting the unlock. Once you receive the email that it has been approved, just insert your non-ATT SIM card and it will re-activate the phone via Apple's server and it will be unlocked permanently, it will reboot, and probably automatically do a carrier settings update right after.

In order to double-dip by trading in one's old Verizon Iphone in a Verizon store, does one's Verizon plan have to be an Unlimited plan to start with ? (I have an 8GB plan - will I be able to keep it while doing the trade-in? Thanks.
To get the $800 you need to be on either Get More, Do More, Play More or Unlimited One. Any other plan doesn't qualify.

i called ATT Fraud team.no help from them as they say they cant look into walmart system.

by the time att corp store call dealer support. Or a Walmart store it will be time to get iphone 16 pro max.
Do you seriously think anyone cares at Walmart store ?
I end up with this error last year and missed walmart deal. Later I tried several ways to open att account by various means but nothing worked. On call sales team can open line but they charge activation fee. So Finally I went to corporate store to open byod line, they also got same error. It took 2 hours for them to fix and open a line. Got AARP membership to skip activation fee. Bottom line is if you end up with this error forget about ATT and go to another carrier. That will save lot of time and stress. It doesn't worth the time and hassle to try for a solution.

For folks who are getting below error:

Upgrade with restrictions

You need to complete your upgrade at a Walmart store.
Please visit the nearest Walmart store with a Walmart Mobile Desk and we'll help you upgrade your device.

I was able to confirm that this error is from Walmart's side and not ATT's. I tried doing an upgrade from the Best Buy site and I was able to do it without any issues. So, it's Walmart thats causing issues after the address change.

Did you complete the purchase at Best Buy? If so did they match the Walmart offer?

I have both AT&T and Verizon so if I respond to other people regarding my issues, that's why.

Anyway, I can't for the life of me find how you get $800 in full over 36 month credits for a trade in with Verizon (I'm on Get More...whatever the $90 plan is). When I put in that I have an old iphone 11 Max 256gb, it says the "up to $800" trade is like a third of that. It gives me an exact price. Even my iphone 12 pro 512gb it says I get something like $354.

What I'd like to do is get the iphone 13 pro max for my AT&T account (trade in my iphone 11 pro max 256 with verizon for the $800 credits over 36 months). Meaning a phone that isn't activated on verizon, seems they allow that. Hell, i'd even trade in my iphone 12 pro 512 on verizon if they'd give me $800 credits over 3 years.

I am purchasing an iphone 14 pro 256 to activate with Verizon, so I thought I'd give the old AT&T 11 pro 256 as a trade for the $800. Seems the catch is UP TO $800. You only get the $800 if you are trading in the latest phone. No?

Basically, it's UP TO $800, not $800 flat.

This is all based on me wanting to take advantage of this Wal-Mart offer.

Buy AT&T iphone 13 pro max 256 from Walmart with $500 walmart gift card (NO trade in)

But Verizon iphone 14 pro 256 from Walmart with $300 gift card (trade in iphone 11 pro max to verizon for $800)

What seems like reality is I sell both iphone 11 and 12 on ebay. Doesn't seem like Verizon wants to give me $800 over 36 months of credits, what they want to do is give me a small fraction of that.

Keep seeing people saying they're getting $800 in full with Verizon trade in after this walmart deal. How? Seems people aren't reading the fine print or maybe I am missing a link to click on.

Thanks...sorry for the rant...read this entire 60 pages of messages and Walmart has been a nightmare with AT&T with this deal. Verizon, has been easy with walmart...why AT&T is such a nightmare I don't know why.

I also have a super old grandfathered Family Share plan with the buckets of data to share, I pay for the 20 gig bucket and receive 40 gigs with roll over, no throttling, no hot spot caps along with a super deep corporate discount.

I have upgraded 3 years in a row no issues at Walmart because they do not change your plan at all, no need to switch over to their "new" unlimited plans. It is the ONLY place I can upgrade my phones without affecting my existing plan.

I just upgraded again today, 4th year now, and my existing plan was untouched.

Here is the online process:

1. Select the size and color of iPhone 14 you want, make sure the "Special $300 eGift Card with purchase" promo is listed below the monthly installment amount

2. Follow the prompts for existing ATT account and make sure you choose upgrade, key in the phone number you want to upgrade, it will text you a code at that number to verify

3. Review the installment plan options, pay off up to 30% to have a lower monthly installment amount, and agree to the terms

4. Checkout and pay taxes for your phone

5. You will receive a confirmation email regarding the purchase, estimated arrival date, and acknowledgment that they will send you eGift Card via email after phone has been activated. The next eGift Card email will contain the gift card number and PIN code. Add this to your Walmart app as payment method and when paying at any Walmart or Sam's Club register, scan the QR code on the credit card pin pad terminal with your Walmart app and that purchase will draft from the eGift Card and the app will show remaining balance.
Will these steps work if currently on month-to-month AT&T prepaid plan ?? As of now am getting an error but was wondering if its a technical glitch

Yeah, I have tried every 6-10 hours since noon yesterday and the same error. Only thing left is a gold 256gb iphone 13 pro max for AT&T. Looks like we'll be going into the store at an hour that only monks are awake to look for the deal. AT&T sucks. (Sorry employees, Monks and Walmart employees) PeaceLMAOWave

You won't see the $800 promo with Verizon until you receive your new device and activate.

You can however go through the upgrade checkout process with Verizon and you should see the $800 promo when you add the trade-in in the same cart. This should confirm you will be eligible for the $800 trade in promo.

Slicker yet is to buy a broken iPhone XR/Galaxy S10e for $100 or less to trade in for the $800 and sell your 11 pro.

Edit: Attached screenshot of $800 trade in value for iPhone XR when I added an iPhone 14 Pro upgrade on a Play More line in my cart.

No. I didn't complete upgrade order on Best Buy. I was just trying to see if I can get past that step at Best Buy. Seems Walmart has extra checks and whenever you change address, Walmart wants you to do one upgrade in store and verify your address in person. I am hoping online upgrades will work after you do one upgrade at their store.

It won't allow me to go through with this deal, I assume its because I never owned a credit card therefore I don't have any credit histort. Can any one suggest me what can I do in order to get approved for one of these payment plans that require credit check? I was trying to buy a t.v on bestbuy's website with the 18 month financing with 0 interest but also there my application was canceled/denied.

Got 14 pro max. This is the best deal so far for this BF. Thank you!
Already an ATT customer, just upgraded my phone and planning to trade-in old iPhone 11.
For upgrade: $1199+Tax+Activation fee
Bill Credits after Trade-in: $800
Walmart GC: $300
You can't get the $800 after trade-in because that's only if you upgrade at Verizon. Idk why people keep saying you can. It has been posted numerous times but that information is false. When you buy from Walmart, the agreement you sign to place the order makes no mention of $800.00 trade-in (They are only doing $250.00 on select devices). And then when you go to Verizon, to get the $800 trade-in, you need to sign an agreement that does state $800 trade-In as long as you purchase from them . You cannot do that because your line is already in contract with Walmart.

Edited to include Walmart $250 info

Any way to get around this?
Quote from Arien :
If you don't have unlimited plan they are giving error while upgrading after validation with ATT.
Not a Walmart issue, it's caused by ATT
Quote from nmp374 :
I tested it out, It will let me buy the phone if I add a line(doesn't have to be unlimited), but it won't let me uprade on my 4gb plan
Quote from Phaenon :
You can't need unlimited. You can always move the line to 4gb after wards
For existing AT&T customers who do not need to stay on grandfathered plans and can switch from 4GB to Unlimited:

Moved my plan from 4GB to Unlimited in my AT&T online account. Plan change took effect immediately (account overview might still show 4GB, but individual lines will show Unlimited). Proceeded with purchase on Walmart without issues.

Just fyi, this deal makes sense for my situation because I need to stay with AT&T for best reception inside my house and my immediate neighborhood; I wanted to buy 13 pro's without trade-in; I always buy my phones outright or pay them off the next day (for unlock) - not looking for bill credit deals. So I need an installment plan that allows early pay off. And AT&T already forced me off of my grandfathered family shared plan (math doesn't work out to keep staying on the old plan) earlier this year. So moving to the current Unlimited plan wasn't a big deal.

Thank you all for helping me get this done online this year.

(Sorry for all the quotes - not familiar with how to better tag and inform the others in a similar situation on SD.)

He's wrong. All the authorized sellers for Verizon (Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Apple, Samsung, VAR kiosks in malls, etc.) can submit an Installment Loan Agreement as the seller for Verizon customers and fulfill Verizon promotional trade-in eligibility requirements. I've done this numerous times and will be getting in on this deal for a couple of lines I manage.

Thank you for your help. I am getting so old that I don't even want to read my own diatribe. I am impressed that someone did.

The 11 pro max 256 has been in a case with screen protector the whole time so in good shape but the ear piece is muted, so you can't hear very well. This is for my boyfriend who was born deaf and got an implant as an adult in one ear that gives him partial hearing. Realized it wasn't his hearing, it's the phone. Seems the speaker is stuck for the ear piece. We had insurance on the AT&T for $8.99 a month (sadly) and they quoted $250 to replace the device. Ended up canceling the insurance. Looks like on ebay it's worth $300 after fees likely even less since the ear speaker isn't is stuck. In hindsight regretting not calling assurance or whatever the AT&T insurance plan is, I was just annoyed that they quoted 250 online after so many years of paying for it. I felt stupid for doing it and I was.

Good to know I have an option to get the full $800, but in order to get that offer I have to buy the walmart verizon phone first and then activate it and while activating it online they will give me that offer of $800. You know this reminds me of my religious upbringing. Cell carriers require a lot of faith. I have left faith, but I guess I will accept it again.
