*Official* Android OS Phone Chat, Questions, & Help Thread -

14,178 1,195 October 22, 2009 at 06:05 PM in Chat
Yahoo!

Our very own thread to discuss and chat about the OS, ROM's, apps from Android Market, our Android phones, tips & tricks, questions, and help issues. With the different phones out now and to be released from various carriers, I figure we all have a lot in common with the Android OS. We can discuss what we like, need help with, what apps are cool or don't work well, as well as questions and help issues. Given that CSR's from the various carriers may know less than we do, this thread is for all of us so we can help one another.

haha, yeah, there are a bunch of previous dumbphone users who decided to get the Droid, so they are the ones that are having user errors. The others who have found something that the droid doesn't do, are just trying to make excuses to keep their iPhones.

I really liked the Hero, but I'm pretty much stuck with Verizon, so I had to go with the Droid! I, too, am discovering new things everyday!
You know that the Eris is the same thing as the Hero, right?

Perhaps you should create a podium thread so you can defend the iphone over Android. This thread is for chat, honest questions (not fomenting bickering between Android & iphone), and help for those with Android phones. You are welcome to join the thread in the proper light and topics of the thread, but please take your iphone defending somewhere else.
Yeesh, I'm not defending the iPhone, just interested in how people use their devices. I would have said the same thing had it been a Windows Mobile or Blackberry phone.

OK, I'll leave now and let you all get on with your confirmation-bias. Smilie

SOOOO wtf is up with the messaging? We tried the Handcent, but fiancee doesn't like it...so went back to the standard..well now when I text him it says its from me until he goes into the full chat window thing and it has his cousins name and #, but the threaded name is mine.Scratchhead
I tried to reset the messaging back to factory default but still doing it..I dont know how to fix itDontknow

Yuppers, that is why I posted what I did to redmaxx. He's a good guy but sometimes treats the lounge like it is the podium and wants to argue. We are all here as the Android community to help each other by answering question, tips 'n tricks, or suggestions.

Is it possible you have the phone number and name transposed in the contacts register? Also, if Handcent is not working, you could give Chomps a try. linly [androlib.com]

Yea I am actually an Iphone lover and Mac fan..hell I have 3 macbooks..LMAO

But IMO I am loving this phone...it does so much more for me. Plus its on a network that works for me..lol

Yea I don't know what went wacky, but we deleted him out of the contacts and rebooted and seems ok now. His was the last text message, so something just got stuck I guess. Was pretty trippy.

Handcent works fine IMO, he just wanted the simple standard one..even after I changed the settings so no bubbles, etc..Dontknow

Also something weird on the regular text messaging..I took a pic and sent it and it said "converting mms charges will apply"...I might have to google that one and see whats up with it..no reason we should be charged. And I dont think we are..just weird little things..laugh out loud

Yeah, there's a few threads like that (and that's the point in them laugh out loud), but this wasn't one of them. I am genuinely interested in the subject. Smilie

Are you interested in "Android OS Phone Chat, Questions, & Help "? Or what subject?
Because as a new Android owner I am here looking for help and info and it's a PITA trying to sift through the posts that have nothing to do with the Android phones..not saying just you..but I'd prefer hearing other Android owners opinions.
Just as I wouldn't take Mac advice from a PC user, I'd want to hear information from people who are actually using the product and know about it.

Can we just let this thread get back on topic of Android related stuff? Thanks Smilie

I am so happy HTC got the bug worked out with the texting/MMS native app for the Hero! I like it better that either Handcent of Chomps - and hated those text bubble things! Ranting

So you got the message you were "charged" for an MMS while using Handcent or was it from the native Droid app?

Well, I love the Hero, and not just because of the Android OS. The HTC Sense UI is awesome in itself. It lays over the OS and makes it more flexible and easier to use. There are widget and other customization apps in Market that the Hero does already because of the Sense UI. With the true multi-tasking abilities, wi-fi, and Sprint's faster 3G (when not on wi-fi) I find myself using one of my Hero phones to do a lot of things I would normally use a computer for. The screen is smaller of course, but the convenience cannot be dismissed. Just another step in technology freeing me from a desk. Yahoo!

It was on the native app..the Handcent App didn't say it..But I googled and I guess it's just a standard message with the Droid, others are getting it too.

We were fine with the native App, but didn't think you could forward texts. We figure out if you hold down on what you want to forward an option will pop up. So we are just going to use the native now. The others just have the + button to add contacts and could do multiple. We haven't figured out how to send to multiple contacts without having to type each in.
So many things to learn..but it's like an adventure..laugh out loud

Wasn't there some app that was kinda like LowJack for your Android? I don't remember what it was called. There are a few apps in Market similar now, but the reviews are mixed. The one I am thinking of got great reviews.
