OP has gotten the specs wrong in the title.
According to the spec sheet of this model: https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/L...82JW00Q7US, the screen has a 120Hz refresh rate and not 165Hz, It's also 250-nits and 45% NTSC.
For $599 I think it does
The issue is this one model has multiple configurations https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/...6_Spec.pdf
and even on Walmarts website it mixes them together. In some of the description it shows as "up to" 165hz yet elsewhere it shows this specific one as 120hz. It also shows as both a 5600h and "up to" a 5800h ryzen cpu in the description on walmarts site.

The given product according to Walmart is 82JW00Q7US, which is the 5600h/120hz configuration. So I would assume it is that but maybe some could get lucky and get a 5800h/165hz config. Unlikely but it's happened before with these walmart computers.

I bought the Ideadpad Gaming 3 3050 version that was posted last week with a slightly newer cpu. Should I return that and get this instead?

compare:
https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/L...82JW00Q7US
https://psref.lenovo.com/Detail/I...82SB0001US

seems the only points whose legion are better than ideapad are: SSD, battery, ports.

Upgrading Ram isn't hard. Go get a $20-$50 8gb stick of ram and take the 15 mins to upgrade it or just buy a laptop for more money that has more ram.

Ram is just a default but easily fixed compromise to get these down to an affordable deal. They still have models with the extra ram but you pay to have it in there straight from the factory.

Yes I agree. I almost wish I woulda went with the legion pro at the time, but I got the deal alert because it was a site glitch and I didn't have much time to think about it and I was at work in the middle of the day. I thought the hell with it. I didn't need it but thought I'd try my luck maxing out all the add ons for the laptop thinking they would cancel the order anyway. There's no way their gonna ship base laptop specs for the almost $2k laptop I just spec'd out. Sure enough 3 months later I had it. Lol. Then I had to break it to my wife. Lol. Which wasn't bad, I make plenty of money but we just had baby, bought a new house, new car, and we were about to buy all new appliances, cabinets and flooring for the house. So really a gaming laptop wasn't on the top of the list at the moment. Lol.
Sick. And yeah I liked BOTH the Legion 5 and the L5P but the L5P is the one I kept because the price gap was pretty small. I have no doubt I would have been happy with a similar specd non pro but the pro is (after 8 months) officially my favorite laptop ever lol. Just... everything works REALLY well and feels nice to use.

And sorry, my post was because I misread yours thinking you had the L5P and might want an opinion comparing the two to know whether to buy this one.

Na it's all good. Wish I woulda got the pro. But no regrets on the non pro for $1150 at that time. Def a steal in itself I panicked and never thought it'd ship anyway. Lol.

Now I wish I got 2

RAM is easily upgradable, unlike getting a laptop with a cheaper GPU or dimmer screen.

Of course, but Lenovo making the spec in the first place is dumb. That graphics card and processor, and the fact that it's a laptop aimed at gaming mean literally everyone has to upgrade the RAM off the bat to make anything playable.

If it's the IdeaPad gaming 3 that had the 135w adapter when it needed a 170w adapter, return it and get this. If it's the one that has a 3050 instead of the 3050ti, it's a tough call. I would trade up, but it might not be worth the hassle to you.

Well this specific laptop is a better deal than the G5 md as this laptop also has a 512gb SSD. It will make more of a difference than a 120hz screen vs a 165hz screen with this GPU. With either one yeah you definitely want to spend the extra $30 on another 8gb stick of ram from Amazon and get dual channel going

EDIT: Also with this one you get Freesync and (if this matters to you) more RGB options.

It's the one that's from Amazon with the newer 6600H but with a 3050 instead of the 3050ti. I don't know what to do hahaha. Both are same price.

Does any one know if this has x2 4GB RAM or a single 8GB RAM?

Like I said, personally I would trade the 6600h + 3050 for a 5600h + 3050ti, since the latter will perform better in games, period. You are GPU bound with those configurations in pretty much every game, so having a stronger GPU will yield better performance in gaming. The 6600h is only about 5% faster than the 5600h when they have the exact same GPU. And yes, this is taking into account the benefits of DDR5 vs DDR4. I recommend going to youtube and typing in both processor names to see comparisons. Also, if it matters to you, you get color options with the Legion 5's keyboard that you don't get with the Ideapad Gaming 3
