    My 5 y/o loves the junior version, I would think 10 is old enough for the full version especially if he has decent board game experience.

    I'm certain your kid could handle the rules even with little to no prior experience (Catan is a "classic" gateway game at this stage) just don't be surprised if they have some difficulty with the overall strategy and resource management ("what should I be doing?"). Catan Jr. is a great game and a solid intro-Catan where they did indeed streamline Catan while keeping much of the feel (including griefing other players and wild luck - full disclosure, I'm not the biggest fan of Catan but I play it with the kids fairly often because it's the new Monopoly). I would only justify Catan Jr. with older kids if you're looking for something fast. There's still enough game in Catan Jr. for older kids (unlike, say, Castle Panic Jr. which is so simplified as to only be appropriate for the youngest of players), but if time isn't a factor, then Catan is probably worth the investment (since, as I suggested, I consider this a modern "classic" in the vein of Monopoly).

    Love these game threads. we have a bunch already but looked into Wavelength based on the comments and discovered they have a free mobile phone app/game. I prefer physical board games to get off electronics but it's a good (and free) option if you want to check it out. Not sure how aligned it is with the board game but free is free Wink each person installs the app on their phone, I think. One hosts the game, everyone else joins. You can play in person or on zoom.

    I recommend Qwirkle if you are looking for a board game to play outside. Pretty quick to learn and the wood tiles don't blow away in the wind.

    If you want a dumb fun game, and you are a dumb fun parent (me), then either of the Throw Throw games are a hoot and definitely worth $12.50.

    You can get almost all of these for the same price on Amazon btw

    I have about a thousand games played just on the app, on one single scenario, it all depends on which map you are playing too. I'm sure there are groups play it smoother.

    It's more of the same, honestly... I do feel like New York is the worse of the short versions, because you can easily win based on the luck of the destination tickets you get at the start
