1. Source fresh coffee (roasted within the past 2 weeks)
2. Buy a decent hand grinder (cheap option) or a good burr grinder (expensive option)
3. Buy a French press (simpler method) and/or a Hario v60 (more complex method)
4. Watch Hoffman's YouTube videos on his method for French press or Hario v60
5. Enjoy the best coffee at home

EDIT: I forgot step 6, don't let COVID screw up your sense of taste and smell indefinitely. RIP my enjoyment of coffee...

And get a scale. Good coffee is getting the ground/coffee ratio right in addition to the right grind size for how you are brewing. About 1 gram of ground to 16-19ml of water (personal preference).
Good point! A scale (even a cheap one) is a must for consistent results

I started reading about how having a good scale is important but does a price of a scale matter? Would a scale under $60 be an okay price?
Under $15 is just fine. It's consistency that matters more. You want to be able to reproduce your desired coffee ground/water ratio results. 1g of coffee ground to 18ml of water is a starting point.
