It was just mostly soloing grinding when we played and it took too long to get to the end game content where you actually play with other people.
Is it worth giving the game another try?

The ques pop pretty quickly only really late night\ super early mornings are a little slow but it's expected.
DPS ques can take a little longer. Healer, and Tanks are usually more in need.
I highly recommend playing with friends, or joining a Discord server especially if you join a Free Company. (Like a guild)
There is one discord called "The Ballance" with a lot of information and other player resources.
I started mid August. I didn't pay till after hitting level 60.

For the different continent thing, depending on your starting job you'll start off slightly different but the main story questline is unified for all jobs regardless of starting city. Job quests are separate lines though even if within the same starting city.
Great time to try it with just the trial since it includes the expansion and you'll see the game on sale again here and there. Limitation of trial accounts is you cannot create a party, but you can join one so ideally one of you would have a paid account if you wanted to play together.

If I buy the PC/Windows version via the link, and keep the key until I'm ready to use it, will it give me a steam key?
