I have the CP-60S, which is the parlor version, and I love playing it! I'm 5'0" and I find it easier to play. I also own a Yamaha FS 830 and a Martin Jr. Dreadnought and out of all of them, I play more of the Fender. It is so comfortable to play,

For $120 this is an absolutely good bang for the buck!

Thanks! From the video the fs800 sounds much better to me. Probably should wait for it's discount

I agree. In similar models I always thought Yamahas sound a little warmer. However this is a good price for the Fender.

I got one for $130 and I'm going to buy a spare one for this price!

Compared these with the Solid Spruce "Made in Indonesia" ones and IMHO these (Cedar Top) are far superior. Main reason is the NUT is not softer plastic, feels like a Tusq material and rings and sustains nice! Also depth is less than the Indo's and more comfortable for me. Stock strings sound amazing, if you want to brighten up the "mellow" Cedar Top 80/20 strings I like.

Yes. And the solid top is a bonus. Makes it more resonant.

All new guitars should be checked out by an experienced player (I'm sure any local worship pastor would look it over for you) to see if the one you got requires a "set-up" which entails lowering the string height, filing sharp frets etc to make it comfy and enjoyable to play. Any music store can do a set up.

I'd get him one (if he has the interest) and get him at least some introductory lessons by a teacher who will let him explore his interests and not just follow a book.

My 2¢

Cheers!
Thanks. H's been taking piano for about 7 years and his teacher also teaches beginning guitar.

I would opt for a Yamaha over these cheaper Fenders, but the solid-top Fenders (the S) are a great value. They have a pretty thick gloss finish though, so I don't expect them to open up much over time.

Full size, just a shallower body.

I bought this version with hard shell case https://www.adorama.com/fe0970110232.html when it was on sale recently for $109. Great value even w/o case. Really hard to do any better than this, beginner or not. Excellent fit and finish plays comfortably. Very resonant, no fret buzz. Hard to believe $100 guitars are this good.

I'm thinking of the same, that I'd wait for the FS800 to go on sale. But we might be waiting for a long time, as the last time it was on SD was 6 years ago. :-) Sounds like FS800 sells well enough that no retailer needs to offer discount.

Yeah, the Yamaha will never be this cheap, at least not new. It sells too well. The cheapest it every gets is $10-$20 off, anyways. I bought the mahogany CD-60S from Adorama when it was $99, and it came setup beautifully and sounded great. It's the first guitar I've ever bought where I didn't have to adjust the truss rod the second I got it (YMMV). The frets needed a polish, as bends sounded and felt scratchy, but that was an easy fix, and to be expected on a cheap guitar.

Just got it today. Mine sounds amazing and the action is much lower than other Fender acoustics I've bought right out of the box.
