This looks identical (including the ingredients) to the one they make for dogs (except for the pet picture). Does anyone know why this couldn't be used for dogs instead of cats?

Most likely is identical, pyrethrins are generally considered very safe for dogs while not considered safe for cats so if anyhing the cat one is probably safer for dogs than it is for cats.

Some humans are very sensitive to mites. Very often, dermatitis is linked to mite infestations. There was recently a very large outbreak in DC. Mites can propagate to humans when they hatch on flying insects (like midges) and then burry under the skin, defecate and lay eggs. One of the major, not very well screen by dermatologists, is scabies. Yes, this is more common than one might think, even in developped countries. Some do not develop any itch with scabies but for others, it can be crazy. 5% permethrin cream is then one of the best treatment. Sheets and clothes and everything else has also to be treated with permethrin. It is not easy to get rid of those.

NOTE: DO NOT USE PERMETHRIN ON CATS --> YOU LIKELY WILL SEVERELY HURT YOUR FELINE.
