The 1080p touchscreen is IPS though no details on brightness (I'd assume 250 nits).
This is surprisingly not terrible.
EDIT:
Per Crucial [crucial.com] this has two RAM slots and can take an m.2 PCIe SSD for upgrades.
Per this video [youtube.com] it also has a 2.5" SATA drive bay, plus the included SSD is of course one of the m.2 2230 SK hynix drives found in most Dells these days.

Mine did, however, so walked out the door for $349+tax.
THAT, I believe, is a Slick Deal.
Thanks @plasticquart. +4 to you.

As far as how I like it, I have no idea yet. I've got until Jan 15 to decide and I'm staying really busy buying up Black Friday-caliber deals at the moment - including the recent deal on 32Gb laptop RAM kit from Crucial and a 1Tb SSD specifically to upgrade this laptop, so I might never actually see what this was like before the additions (sorry about that). Those 2 additions will cost me less than $200 though and I don't game, so I really can't imagine not liking the machine once its finished unless maybe the keyboard or display are just intolerable (but unless it's radically different than my other Dell laptops, I really expect this will be a keeper, even if only for taking on vacation).
If you give this a shot I'd be interested in hearing the results. Thanks for asking and Good Luck.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I haven't opened it up yet as I'm waiting to see if there's any crazy spectacular Black Friday laptop deal that pops up last minute. I'm sure there won't be and this is probably as good as it gets with an i5. It made Front Page, but didn't get much noise. I'm sure it will be fine for my needs if I end up keeping it. Gobble gobble!

I did not see if Dell ever fixed this issue at any point where newer models that were shipped were problem free. So I'd expect these to fail as well.

Two very different laptops though screen wise 14" vs. 15.6". Make sure 14 inches works for you and isn't too small. I purchased the Macbook Pro 14" a few months ago on that big sale and it's just too small for me. I rarely use it and go to my 15.6" Chromebook for my daily usage. Quite the waste. I just like the larger screen real estate even if the Macbook is superior in every way. Live and learn.
Costco one will be lighter. Both have IPS screens. For portability, definitely the HP at Costco.
