Comes with a Core i5-1135G7 [intel.com] CPU which is an 11th gen 4 core 8 thread with Intel Iris Xe 80 EU cores integrated graphics. This is a surprise bonus at this price. I have an older laptop with 48 core Iris graphics and it can play less demanding games in lowered settings. Think Starcraft II, League of Legends, etc.

The 1080p touchscreen is IPS though no details on brightness (I'd assume 250 nits).

This is surprisingly not terrible. If I were in the market for a basic laptop (normal internet/desktop usage) this one sounds great for the price.

EDIT:

Per Crucial [crucial.com] this has two RAM slots and can take an m.2 PCIe SSD for upgrades.

Per this video [youtube.com] it also has a 2.5" SATA drive bay, plus the included SSD is of course one of the m.2 2230 SK hynix drives found in most Dells these days.
$7 USB to Ethernet dongle for the win.
Same system is at Micro Center for $349... https://www.microcenter.com/produ...uter-black

Will dell price match
Dell won't, but Best Buy might. Depends on the manager. YMMV
Mine did, however, so walked out the door for $349+tax.

THAT, I believe, is a Slick Deal.
Thanks @plasticquart. +4 to you.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank Naoautorizada

Well, let's see
  • Dell vs Lenovo (that in itself says a lot)
  • removable ram vs soldered-in ram
  • 64gb max ram vs 16 gb ram max
  • SATA connection and space internally vs no SATA
  • IPS screen vs (unknown)
  • Intel vs Ryzen
  • $349 (@Microcenter, which BB matched for me - see above) vs $399
  • I didn't check connectors and don't have time at the moment, sorry, but I hope that helps.

1080 IPS with touch, upgradeable RAM. No USB-C. This seems like a solid deal, no?
Can someone please confirm that this is IPS? I don't see it in the Best Buy page or can find a 15.6" touchscreen with IPS on Dell.com.

Is there a Micro Center store near you? That probably helps. I may try this today since there's a Micro Center like 20 minutes away from the Best Buy store. If I can get the price match and use my $80 in rewards that would be ideal.

How do you like the laptop?

Like $20 to replace that if it's *that* bad.

Hi, and there is one (but only one) Microcenter near here and its 37 miles away (which is also 37 min cause there's a highway that runs directly connects the BB and Microcenter), but the manager (who had to be summoned to approve), was well aware of what and where Microcenter is. This is one of those situations where you have to ask and the results will be YMMV depending on a number of factors. I bought the Sunday evening maybe an hour before closing and had the whole store to myself. That particular store had 27 units of this specific device on hand in inventory. And I told them the price difference was only $20. (It was actually $30, which they discovered during verification and gave me in full, but the result may have been different if I'd have recalled the actual/full $30 difference more accurately at the start.)

As far as how I like it, I have no idea yet. I've got until Jan 15 to decide and I'm staying really busy buying up Black Friday-caliber deals at the moment - including the recent deal on 32Gb laptop RAM kit from Crucial and a 1Tb SSD specifically to upgrade this laptop, so I might never actually see what this was like before the additions (sorry about that). Those 2 additions will cost me less than $200 though and I don't game, so I really can't imagine not liking the machine once its finished unless maybe the keyboard or display are just intolerable (but unless it's radically different than my other Dell laptops, I really expect this will be a keeper, even if only for taking on vacation).

If you give this a shot I'd be interested in hearing the results. Thanks for asking and Good Luck.

My local Best Buy price matched Micro Center without any problems. I was quite surprised how easy it was. And quick. They did triple check the specs to make sure it was the same laptop, but I don't blame them.

I'm kind of in the same boat as you. I haven't opened it up yet as I'm waiting to see if there's any crazy spectacular Black Friday laptop deal that pops up last minute. I'm sure there won't be and this is probably as good as it gets with an i5. It made Front Page, but didn't get much noise. I'm sure it will be fine for my needs if I end up keeping it. Gobble gobble!

Just that Inspiron is Dell's lowest model and the 3000 line is the lowest of the lowest. So I don't know how well would this thing hold up. Otherwise it seems like a fair price with a touch screen. RAM leaves more to be desired but upgradeability makes this palatable.
This model also had (has?) the problem with the hinges. Whether or not they've been rectified is an unknown.

What's the hinge issue? Do they simply wear out after opening/closing the laptop a lot? Or do they break or something else? Thanks!

Thanks for the info! That's terrible! Can happen even if you don't open or close the lid much. The hinges are simply defective. Some have had them repaired for free and quickly. Though that's few and far between. Hmmmm not sure what to do now. Now wonder the price has been reduced.

I did not see if Dell ever fixed this issue at any point where newer models that were shipped were problem free. So I'd expect these to fail as well.

The i3 in the Costco model is slightly better it seems. Here's a comparison: https://nanoreview.net/en/cpu-com...e-i3-1215u Those more in the know can probably give more info.

Two very different laptops though screen wise 14" vs. 15.6". Make sure 14 inches works for you and isn't too small. I purchased the Macbook Pro 14" a few months ago on that big sale and it's just too small for me. I rarely use it and go to my 15.6" Chromebook for my daily usage. Quite the waste. I just like the larger screen real estate even if the Macbook is superior in every way. Live and learn.

Costco one will be lighter. Both have IPS screens. For portability, definitely the HP at Costco.
